When Marv said he wanted Shane Conlin and Polian or whoever wanted a different player and they took Conlin and the other player went to jail. Does anyone have a clue who he was talking about?

Possibly.  Except it doesn't look like Buffalo ever had a shut at Junkin, as he was taken two picks before us:

This is a cool site showing the best/worst picks in history.  Kinda cool.

BTW - we get the #1 bust, of course.

How is Cousineau the #1 worst pick? Didn't the Bills get a pick from Cleveland for him that was used for Jim Kelly?

By that logic, isn't the Colts pick of John Elway just as bad? He never played for them either.

Except that Elway went on to have a long productive NFL career. Cousineau apparantly didn't...

Ahh, here's the real reason:

"Keep in mind that there were only more than 30 picks in the draft (at least regularly) from 1995 on. One more rule: A great pick is weighed based on what the player did for the team that drafted him. John Elway was the greatest player of all-time taken first overall, but not for Baltimore so the Colts, in effect, blew the pick. Let the debate begin."

Jailed several times.....he went the pick before us -- but perhaps we were contemplating moving up...

let me clarify that question...was it kelly or hunter?

Bills picked Tony Hunter with their #1, and Kelly with Browns' #1

Reggie Rogers was the guy they were thinking about picking in '87 at #5. But Cleveland really really really wanted Mike Junkin, whose brother had an amazing career as a LB with Bills. Browns traded with Browns, and probably hoped that Rogers would still be there at #8. Fortunately, Detroit picked Rogers at #7, and Bills got Conlan.

i'm confused - do you mean the bills traded with browns? (you say browns traded with browns).

I think what he meant to say was the Browns traded up with San Diego to take Junkin and that maybe Bills were hoping that Rogers fell to pick 8 but he didn't as he was selected by the Lions at pick 7. In terms of Rogers, he did time for being in a car accident while being under the influence and killed some kids before being drafted.
