Mularkey wasn't here last year, so perhaps he has a different perspective on what has become a disturbing norm in Billsville. Buffalo is 4-12 in its last 16 games, which would have matched the NFL's worst record last season. And it could have been considerably worse if the Bills didn't have a great defense. They have averaged 12.1 points per game over that period, second only to the Jim Ringo-coached 1977 team with O.J. Simpson that scored 160 points for the season (11.4 points per game) and finished 3-11.

The Bills' standards for inefficiency over the past 20 years have been 1984 and 1985, when Booker Moore and the gang posted back-to-back 2-14 seasons and were, well, slightly better than the current offense that has misplayed the past 16 games. The Bills scored 250 points in 1984 and just 200 in 1985.

Buffalo has scored just 194 points over the last 16 contests, counting the final 14 games last year and the first two this year. No team in the NFL scored fewer than 225 points last season. No Bills team in history has scored so few over the course of a full season since the 16-game schedule was implemented in 1978. The 2002 team that finished 3-13 with Rob Johnson and Alex Van Pelt was far more productive in points, yards and first downs than the Bills have been over their last 16 games.

None of that poor performance has anything to do with Drew.

It's not his fault. ;)

But based on yesterdays threads, I think more people are beginning to realize he is not the answer. The Losman era can't begin soon enough. Ask TD about it...if he really believed in DB, would he have made the deal to get Losman?

I think the best thing that could have happened to Losman (and to Mularkey) is JP's injury. Can you imagine the hue and cry to play Losman now if he was healthy? His injury gives the offense time to assimilate to the new system and gives him lots of study and film time. Bledsoe's value in this case is his strong character (which he showed with the Pats in '01), his willingness to take heat for his teammates, and his ability to absorb an obscene amount of punishment.

Losman and the Bills will be better served in the long run by letting Bledsoe take his licks now, IMO, and letting JP play when things have come together a little better.

I hate it when I have to agree with a Foxboro Mike post. ;)
