Kevbeau Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Didn't the Texans extend D. Davis this season? The knock on Davis is him missing 2-3 games a season because of injury. Besides that, he's proven himself to a valuable weapon, despite their excuse for an O-line. The Texans also have depth at RB with Wells and Morency, so while Bush may be the "glamour" choice, drafting him will probably set them back another three years unless they can find a completely new line through free agency.
VABills Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 556973 No, No, No. Whoever drafts Bush needs to get Trey Cheney, the running back from UAB. Then you have Bush-Cheney.

It has a nice ring to it, certainly nicer than GM Charlie Casserley.

The Texans have done a decent job in their drafts, especially finding value in the middle rounds and their top picks have been decent save a couple of 2nd rounders in Gaffney & Joppru. However, they have never spent higher than a 3rd on an offensive lineman and nothing over a 4th on a tackle. The Tony Boselli incident not withstanding, the only decent attempt at a OT signing is Todd Wade. Failing to even attempt to protect your number 1 overall QB is unforgivable and Casserly should have been axed before Capers. The Texans have the weapons, they just don't have the trenches (sound familiar). If Casselry doesn't have the stones to ignore the media and fans and pass on Young or Bush for Ferguson, the Texans will be drafting top 5 again the following year. I still think Dom Capers will make a good HC for someone.

The Texans' pitiful attempts to patch together an offensive line are shameful, but even worse when you consider they made David Carr, a quarterback, their franchise player w/ their first ever pick. Now, why in the world would you go all out and get a great line in front of your franchise QB? Going into the season, their entire staff was pretty impressive. Palmer is a decent coordinator (sacrificial lamb that he was) w/ head coaching experience, Fangio is a proven defensive coordinator while Capers brings a wealth of experience as both a coordinator and a head coach. Not many teams had that kind of experience from their top 3 coaching positions. So, considering they had a seasoned staff of coaches available, what was the problem? Might it have been the guy supplying the "talent"? Hmm....
BuffOrange Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I think Young - Davis is far better than Carr- Bush, only because I view Carr as the weakest link. 556358 Meh, Young's chances of being a bust are at least triple that of Bush IMO. Davis is a nice player, but you can find runners like him in the 3rd round of almost any draft.

But there are very few backs that can catch the ball out of the backfield like Davis.

Kevbeau Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Willis can. 557313 I think so to, but the staff has to get him the ball in that capacity (28 receptions over 16 games) From what I can find he was thrown to 42 times.
