stevestojan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 anyone know how to find out what the OUTGOING SMTP server is for hotmail or yahoo mail? would it just be SMTP.hotmail.com ??? and what would the incoming server be? let me know thanks in advance.
mcjeff215 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 You're not using an external reader for those.... they're web based only. Although I think that PERHAPS outlook express MIGHT support reading hotmail messages.
jarthur31 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Yea, what Jeff said. Only OE can handle the d/l'ing of those messages. You'll be out of luck if you try to use another mail client. I can give you the server setting but I don't know what good that will do.
Corp000085 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 use OE. You could mess with the registry codes to see if you can extrapolate what their smtp server might be.
stevestojan Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 the reason i need this is to download email to my new phone. I want to also be able to send email from it. I dont know if i can do that with my hotmail account though... maybe Ill have to set up an account with my cable internet provider?
millbank Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 here is one option , does not cost much Smtp.com

Also, the passport/.net system that ms uses appears to be incompatible with most phone/wap browsers, which means you can't use CDPD or GPRS (your cell phone's data transmission method) to read hotmail. Yahoo should be better, but check your ISP. I have cable internet and get seven email addresses free...
