jahbonas Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Could the contract extension of LB Crowell indicate the new GM is in house with Modrak?? Would Capers (to be fired in Houston) be a possible candidate for DC ?? and a move to 3-4 ?

Johnny Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Does this mean that Jerry Grey is going to be the next Head Coach of the Houston Texans? 546586 how do you spell gray....or grey...i've been confused since crayola came out with gray in one box and grey in another.........and thats whats years ago
KOKBILLS Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 guess it's possible.....do you prefer the 3-4? 546579 Not without a NT who can play the 2-gap technique...Seeing as though currently we barely have one that can play a 1-gap...
jahbonas Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 Not without a NT who can play the 2-gap technique...Seeing as though currently we barely have one that can play a 1-gap... 546598 WE have $20million in cap + draft picks to acquire a 2-gap tackle Dom Capers...unlike Jerry Gray would find a way to utilize a DT like Sam Adams Ryan Denney is actually a quality 3-4 DE since he stops run and is tall but is not a good passrusher...Schobel & Kelsay may see more pass situation duty We do have 4 quality LB's (Posey is a 3-4OLB that TD acquired never considering he might not fit a 4-3 scheme). Polian alwaya said its PLAYER + SYSTEM....TD never understood this, Remember TD moved uo ahead in RD2 to draft Denney before Steelers did,,,,Denney is a perfect DE for Pitt (they played a 3-4)....but is a moderate fit for a 4-3....TD was too blinded to stick it to steelers to realize the same player was a poor fit for our 4-3. Biggest reason for Capers...he's flat out an experience top notch Def coordinator far better than Jerry Gray who had one good run when we played an incredibly weak string of teams in 2004. TD should be shot for not tying up Dick Lebeau & Pat Willams...

Also where is this great 4-3 talent ?? 4-3 requires pass rush from the front 4....where are you seeing this?? 3-4 generates passrush from linebackers and scheme...we would have that with our LB corp...

jahbonas Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 Yet if you don't have the size up front in your 3-4, you can't stop the run and where is the size on our D-line? 546686 We have draft picks and $20million in free agent money to acquire a 2-gap tackle and size upfront....Sam Adams & Ron Edwards are both 320+lb DT's There's a reason why the top Def coordinators like Belichek and Wade Phillips always play a 3-4.....its too difficult generating passrush out of front 4.... Finding bigger run stopping DL are far easier (and less expensive) to find than are defensive lineman who can also passrush We currently have signed thru next year 4 quality LB's on the roster as is...Posey would blossom being put back into the same 3-4 scheme Capers had him play at Houston where he had 8 sacks 3 yrs ago Also this is a very deep LB draft...very deep and talented if u wished to add 1 special LB

As size alone doesn;t mean a guy can 2 gap, look no further than Sam Adams. The current coaching staff was hoping he'd 2 gap this year but he has shown he doesn't wish to do so. I also don't think he has the athleticism to play DE in a 3-4 but Edwards might be but he's due to be an UFA. Also you're advocating for would ask for us to dump our argueably best defensive player (Aaron Schobel) and replace every other D-line man under contract next season ie go through yet another rebuilding year? I wouldn't due it as feel our LBs are vesataille enough that they can play in a 4-3 as the previous 2 seasons showed. Plus Posey, Fletcher and Spikes be 1 year closer to the wrong side of 30 in 2007 when things would likely be ready to contend.

Thats ridiculous.....besides Schobel would still get many opportunities to do what he does best and that is to rush the passer on passing downs...our problem this year is not stopping the run and getting nto passing downs.... Also...schobel is far from our best defensive player now on 1st & 2nd runing downs....he's very good on 3rd downs and that would stay the same In your 4-3...we would be forced to sit one of our 4LB's and allow a Bannon or a Tim anderson to play instead... Our strength is our LB's...we can even add to theat greatly with an immediate rookie LB if we choose.....we should play the 3-4 which hilites LB play We only switched to a 4-3 under Gray & Gregg Williams because they had such little NFL experience that it was the only defense they knew how to coach So our defense was built around our coach's inability rather than the personneel in front of him

Are you forgetting that we lost Ted Washington, Sam Rogers and John Holecek when GE and Gray were brought in, so what personnel did we have? That said I find this whole thread ironic because back when we hired GW I was advocating us to get Capers but that was before the salary cap purge I just talked about.
