scribo
HOPEFULLY, our next star defensive tackle will be on national television tomorrow night at his sixth ranked Oregon Ducks take on Oklahoma in San Diego in the Holiday Bowl. The game will be on CBS at 8 p.m. Here is a decent article: Ngata faces decision. I'm trying to figure out who else may swipe him before the Bills get the chance. Right now, if I were picking for the Bills, I'd take Ngata over anyone else (execpt Reggie Bush) in the draft.

That said, I do like the kid and if Ferguson and Williams are gone by our pick (very likely), I'd hope he's around.

Otherwise, I'd be happy with Texas' Rod Wright or LSU's Claude Wroten. And I'd fully support drafting a second DT if the Hurricane's Orien Harris is still on the board in the 2nd Round. It is great for the Bills that this draft is so deep in defensive monsters.

Hawk would be tough to pass on, but I would NOT take Ferguson -- there is no way he'll be worth the money he is going to make. You can count on it. scribo
Rather Brick then another knee injury player from Miami in Winston. 543966[/snapback] Well, I wouldn't take either. If the Bills were to trade up to the mid-20s, I'd just might take the other Winston (Winston Justice, SoCal). The Bills need someone with at least some NFL experience at LT, and witha high first round pick they need someone who can make at least a decent impact in '06. It could happen, but I don't think it will. For lineman, especially ones who end up on bad teams, it's always tough to gauge them early on. For example, since New Orleans is having such a crappy year, the tendency is to think Jammal Brown is not having a good year. If you watch the Saints play, and I have on a few occasions (including the time I went to the Bills-Saints game this year), you'd see that Brown is more than likely the best offensive lineman the Saints have and is doing a solid job as a rookie. And I don't necessarily rate any OTs higher. But I've watched him play several times in person this year. I don't think he is worth a top-5 pick, or, maybe more importantly, the money that goes along with that. My biggest concern is that he seems to get injured when things start going south. Now that could be because he isn't a mean, nasty guy -- which is what I like in a OT -- or it could be that he is under 300 pounds. He is bound to get hurt a few times a year if he doesn't continue putting on weight, and if he does keep adding pounds, my guess is that he'll lose that finess that he has right now. Bottomline -- I don't think will be any better than Jonas Jennings.
Mark VI
I'm looking at more than a dozen different players as our top pick. Several OL and a few DL. Let's keep an open mind and be realistic in our expectations. What we do in March Free Agency will determine our picks in April. I fully expect the Bills to be making a serious effort at signing some OL help.

The Bills need a run-stuffer first and foremost, and it seems Ngata is the best man for the job. Say the Bills end up with the 13th pick...should the Bills then entertain the idea of trading up into the top-10 to ensure getting him? I kind of think so, depending on what other teams end up in front of us.

It really has less to do with how he looked then just dealing with another high draft pick with a questionable knee.

First and foremost, I'd love to see our pass rush upgraded. Why? Because the top 2 pass rushers in this draft, Williams and Kiwanuka, appear to be very special guys that you can just plug in there and they'll provide the pressure you need. Considering the instability we'll have @ corner (depending on what Nate does), we'll need to revamp the pass rush to make it easier on the guys outside. I'm sure the safeties will appreciate it too, especially if there's a youth movement there as well. That, plus it'll help us get the D off the field on 3rd downs. I think, other than Ferguson, Winston has had the best season this year of all the OT prospects. It's amazing he's even on the field after his injury, let alone playing @ the level he currently is. Again, when it comes to the draft, I look @ the on the field issues mainly. As long as there's no rap sheet on the guy, I could care less about that stuff. The "laziness" thing is what they always come up w/ to use as a 'con' for guys when they can't find something else, anyway. Kinda like calling a guy a troublemaker for playing a prank involving a pizza (wonder who that was; hmm....). What Watson needs is good coaching and guidance. I hope he gets it.
