Tux of Borg
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/football/3537982.html Dec. 20, 2005, 4:00PM Bills' Holcomb Expected to Start Again By JOHN WAWROW AP Sports Writer © 2005 The Associated Press ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Journeyman backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb will likely make his second start in place of limping J.P. Losman when the Buffalo Bills play at Cincinnati on Saturday. Coach Mike Mularkey said after practice Tuesday that he's leaning toward starting Holcomb even though Losman practiced on a limited basis. Losman sat out Buffalo's 28-17 loss to Denver last weekend after hurting his throwing shoulder and left leg in a loss to New England on Dec. 11. Losman, who is listed as probable to play, showed no signs of difficulty throwing passes in practice, but did walk with a slight limp. The Bills (4-10), who have lost five straight and seven of eight, face the Bengals (11-3), who have already clinched their first division title in 15 years and are attempting to secure a first-round playoff bye. Offensive lineman Mike Williams, who has missed three games with a pulled back muscle, is listed as questionable after missing practice. Reserve tight end Ryan Neufeld (right knee) is listed as out after he was hurt last weekend. Holcomb had an OK outing last weekend, going 22-of-35 for 202 yards passing and a touchdown in making his sixth start of the season. The 10-year veteran has been the Bills' more efficient quarterback this season, going 108-of-162 for 1,017 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. The Bills also are 3-3 in games Holcomb started. Losman is a first-year starter who was awarded the No. 1 job in February in place of Drew Bledsoe, who was released and is now starting in Dallas. In eight starts and nine games, Losman has completed less than 50 percent of his attempts and has eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. BillsObserver
Lovely...Im doing backflips now, because Im sooooooooo excited. 538755 yeah .. at this point i don't think anybody even cares. we've beaten cincy the last 3 years in a row (or something like that) but this time it's a different story with Palmer in (last year Kitna started I believe.) there's not even a glimmer of hope. if JP plays, we'll still get crushed and he'll look bad again to the media. at least if holcomb plays and we get crushed, maybe people will catch on that it's not all JP's fault and this team is a joke. Clockwork
Jp isn't playing because he has a "slight" limp? That is sooooooo weak.
Johnny Coli
Jp isn't playing because he has a "slight" limp? That is sooooooo weak. 538902 He's not playing because MM is a hack, and is trying to get another job. It's a crap move and it smells of desperation.. To suggest JP Losman is "injury prone" (because that is what you are suggesting) is assinine.
twist_to_open
MM was quoted as trying to be "smart" about his QB decision......what the hell does that mean? He doesnt want to push JP back in too early and then not have him for the playoffs? The only salvation for this pathetic season is to keep getting this 1st rounder the playing time and if that means having to play a little dinged up then thats good experience to. I wish he actually gave a s"it about this team and not just is job.
tennesseeboy
6yet another bad MM coaching decision. JP should get all of the reps he can in the remainder of the season, in order to improve, to develop more familiarity with the receivers ("JP..that number 80 guy is eligible to receive passes as well, and he isn't all that bad at that sort of thing.") and to allow the powers to be to assess his development to see if he is the long term guy at the position. Starting Holcomb does nothing for us. I suppose a real justification might be that the offensive line is so bad that we don't want to hurt our developing quarterback and Kelly is expendable in a hopeless situation. If so, what a comment about our Bills.

FanfromAlbany
I can't help but wonder if all this doesn't have something to do with the Mould thing. Ralph comes to town and talks with EM on that Thursday and Moulds agrees to the suspension because he "missed" two days of practice. The idea being that the gameplan was set by then, with JP at QB and Aiken at WR for Moulds. But the next week JP has an injury and can't play because he has "missed practice" for two days. Now this week he is not starting again. Could this be because Ralph has lost confidence in JP? Was this loss of confidence influenced by what was said at the meeting between Ralph and Moulds? Did Ralph tell MM to set down JP and the injury status is just a way for the coaching staff to save face? I like Moulds and I'm not trying to bury him by suggesting that he sabotaged JP but the timing seems odds and the cloak-and-dagger around JP's injury seem to not be on the level. Just curious what you folks might think.
Guest BackInDaDay
Asked how he was feeling, Losman said, "I can't answer the questions you want to ask." Sounds like a line from a soap opera! The music comes up - cut to a closeup of Sullivan - cut back to JP - fade out

For the first time in a long time I actually hate our organization. 538977 Over the last couple of weeks I have lost all respect for this team and realy can't stand MM. This whole thing about JP's injury sounds way off base.
Mile High
Does anyone really know his real injury? Last week it was his shoulder now I've read reports that he's limping. What is going on at One Bills Drive? These guys are seriously taking stupidity to a new level IF they are trying to save face by having Holcomb start. Belichick has been called a genius the last several years and he is famous for his vagueness regarding injuries. I know it's been a terrible year and all but it seems like people are nit picking every single thing at OBD. It's ridiculous already. Lot's of teams do this. I believe JP can play if he really pressed the issue and the reason he is not playing is that he's just not there mentally. Yes, we would like him to get experience but the coaching staff has a duty to play the guys that give us the best chance to win.
