Boxer Baby Joe Mesi has scored a knockout in his quest to return to the ring.

Mesi, 32, the former heavyweight contender from the Town of Tonawanda, was able on Monday afternoon to convince a judge in Nevada that he has a legal right to return the ring.

The Nevada State Athletic Commision had suspended Mesi' boxing license following brain-bleeding injuries he suffered in a March 2004 fight against Vassily Jirov. Boxing officials felt that Mesi was not medically cleared to fight, however, he argued otherwise.

Mesi today brought his lawsuit against the Nevada State Athletic Commission to that state's 6th Judicial District Court on grounds that the suspension violated his constitutional right to due process.

The judge, Douglas Herndon, agreed.
