Third Down

I know it has been talked about a lot here, but MM was asked about it in his weekly Q&A. It just doesn't make sense to me that you take "one of the top backs in the league" out of the game every third down -- the most important down. Willis seems to catch pretty well, and I would really like to see what he can do with a little space to get moving.

MM's reponse is just plain dumb. Oh, Willis caught one whole screen pass Sunday. I guess all is forgiven then. Oh yeah, and then he goes on to say that the Bills don't really need Willis in there because he has so many other "weapons" in need of their "due."

I would like to know if there is anyone here who thinks putting Shaud in on third down is a good idea, or if you think MM is out of his mind.

Bob Jasek (Keller, TX): Any chance you will get Willis McGahee more involved in the passing game? I know you take him out in most passing situations, and I know it must have something to do with Shaud Williams being a better blocker, but it seems like he could serve a similar role as LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego.

Mike Mularkey: At this point we are still pleased with Shaud. He's been good this year on third down and has made plays when he's had some opportunities. The other thing is when we go to two backs, Willis is in there with Shaud. Willis has had more opportunities and he caught a screen Sunday. I'd like to get him more involved, but we just have so many weapons and I like to get them all their due.

Out of his mind, but that's not news.
