R. Rich Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Here's their top 10 LB units: 10. Michigan 9. San Diego State 8. NC State 7. Georgia 6. Alabama 5. Florida 4. Iowa 3. Ohio State 2. Tennessee 1. Virginia Virginia with the top unit? Oh yeah! Damn, I sure wish JoePa had Al Groh's midas touch when it comes to LBs! How do you replace a stud like Boss Bailey? You bring in Kai Parham, who looks ready for the NFL now at 6-3 and 240. He's a terrific inside 'backer who does well against the run. Also, Ahmad Brooks. This kid, if he remains healthy, will simply dominate college football. He's that good. Oh yeah, they also have Darryl Blackstock, a fierce pass rusher and playmaker; he's good for tackles for losses and consistent QB pressure. Dennis Haley, a senior, has the inside track on the other starting position in the Virginia 3-4 LB set, but watch out for a walk-on named Jon Copper. He's 6-1, 230 lbs and runs a 4.6 in the 40 while also being able to bench 385. He could factor into the mix. Yeah, as if Groh needs more young talent in his linebacking corps!
Bill from NYC Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Can you tell us anything about the Alabama LBs? Thanks.
R. Rich Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 Can you tell us anything about the Alabama LBs? Thanks. 111373 Funny you should mention them. I have plans to tivo their last 2 games: LSU this weekend and Auburn next weekend. I wanted to check out their LBs and RB Kenneth Darby. I also have heard good things about OT Wesley Britt, but I think he may miss the LSU game due to injury. Here's what I do know of Bama's LBs. I know they're a rock solid unit that is THE main reason the Tide has the best pass defense in the nation. They're a good group of guys who work well together. They have a good MLB in Cornelius Wortham. Without him last year (dislocated elbow), their defense suffered and people started calling for the heads of Shula and his defensive coordinator. With Wortham back in the lineup, and with the team losing only one LB to injury this year (Juwan Garth, who missed maybe 3 games), this is a very deep, solid LB unit. The guys I'm really interested in seeing on film are Wortham and SLB DeMeco Ryans, who I've heard a lot of good things about.
Astrobot Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 RRich-- What did you find out about Wortham? Should I add him to the draft board? Astro
R. Rich Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 RRich--What did you find out about Wortham? Should I add him to the draft board? Astro 209022 Well Astro, he looked pretty good the few times I watched him. Good athlete with nice lateral movement, though his coverage skills were a bit rusty. Although he's listed as an OLB, I feel he could benefit by moving inside.
Astrobot Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 I wonder, then, if he's off TD's radar. He still hasn't figured out if Haggan-Crowell-Stamer have what it takes to replace Fletcher.
