apuszczalowski Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 This post is to try to get us to forget the past few weeks I have read many post the past few weeks that keep saying we need to draft all these linemen and then we can be a better team next year. Now I know drafting well can help the team, but why do people think the draft is something that is going to elevate us to the top of the division? Drafts are a crap shoot at best. None of these players have any kind of NFL experience and will usually take a few years to play to their full potential. Very rarely do you pick up players in a draft that can come in and have a huge impact on your team in their first year (although there are exceptions which shows my point of the draft being a crap shoot). Mike Williams is a good example, scouted and predicted to be a great player, hyas not shown any of that potential on a regular basis yet. Would it not be a good idea to pick up a few players in free agency to have an imediate impact and draft players to learn from them and not rush these rookies into games too quickly?
R. Rich Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Well said. The draft is a crap shoot. The key is to to the best job of evaluating the talent available and to match it w/ your needs and the recommendations of your staff. In these areas, the Bills could use some help.
apuszczalowski Posted December 12, 2005 Author Posted December 12, 2005 For every Tom Brady you draft, there are always the Mike Williams Not every highly scouted player will pan out as a decent NFLer, just like not every 5th or 6th rounder is going to be a carrier backup
