gmanbfan Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I was at the Cleveland Jacksonville game yesterday and I forgot that Shelton (the same guy from the Arizone trade rumours with Travis Henry) was playing there. I gotta say he did not look too bad. He didn't stick out as being a weak spot on the line. But I guess TD thought he was not good enough to pick up (even when Arizona dumped him) As for Anotnio Bryant, he is not the solution if we get rid of Moulds. All I heard on Cleveland talk radio is how bad is he because he drops way too many balls. We don't need another Josh Reed!

In fact the coach up there paid him a great compliment during preseason saying that he couldn;t wait for the regular season because the competition had been weak and they weren't sure how to challange him. Yup, good thing we didn't get him. Although to be fair Gandy hasn't been bad, granted he has needed a constant cover from the TE to help but he really hasn't been beat.
BillsObserver Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Shelton would've cost more than Gandy and didn't play well early in the year. One decent performance doesn't make you a good football player. I think Gandy has done OKAY. Not great or anything. So.... I can't look back on that decision as a horrible one.
Mark VI Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Shelton signed a 1 year deal. He's out there again this off-season.
Albany,n.y. Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I still would have preferred that instead of Roscoe, TD had taken Adam Terry. He started at LT for Baltimore yesterday & had only 1 penalty & recovered a Boller fumble. Did anyone watch Hou/Balt who could give more info on how Terry looked?
Ralonzo Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Did anyone watch Hou/Balt 521654[/snapback] If anyone did, they have my condolences.

Terry was the only OL guy of any note picked between Roscoe & Kevin Everett in rounds 2 and 3. The Bills passed on him, most likely because they thought he was a little too angular for a LT. It'll be interesting to see if they missed another Steinbach opportunity....
Phlegm Alley Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 My g/f went to high school with Adam Terry and she thought that he was gay--a little TOO feminine and thought that he was destined to come out of the closet, not that that is any indicator of what kind of football player he is but in your lineman, you do want them to play with a mean streak

I've known some gay men (not in THAT way, ya pervs) who could throw quite a hissy-fit.
VABills Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Looking up some stats through 12 games for some LT's: Shelton 4 sacks 6 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=4670&Submit=Go Gandy 4 sacks 5 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=5515&Submit=Go Levi Jones 3 sacks and 5 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=5896&Submit=Go Orlando Pace 5.5 sacks and 4 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=3951&Submit=Go Walter Jones 2 sacks and 3 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=3949&Submit=Go The great Ogden 7.75 sacks and 6 penalties http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=3540&Submit=Go Of course the guy Shelton got replaced by Davis: 14 penalties and 3 sacks: http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/player...=5449&Submit=Go So Gandy has played well, but we know that part of out problems has been the need to help him with a TE constantly. But still he has done well. But those that said Shelton sucks has finally shown that he is up there with some of the top half of the starting LT's.

EIGHT SACKS! And in only nine games as the starter. I almost wish I hadn't looked.
Brandon Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Interesting. According to them, Jason Peters has only allowed 1/2 sack this season. Granted, he hasn't started many games, but that's still not bad at all.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Looking at the stats, Gandy and Shelton have both given-up 4 sacks in 12 games, and Gandy has committed 5 penalties whereas Shelton has committed 6 penalties. And Shelton is earning $950K in base salary to Gandy's $540K, and I'm sure with bonus Shelton ends up costing over twice as much. A good non-move I'd say, considering the only way the Bills were going to get Shelton was trading for him and his then $3M salary.

Bryant is the Browns' version of Josh Reed, you're right about that. Shelton hasn't been too bad. Even though you're starting to hear more grumbling now, this has been a decent year for the Browns' offensive line. Right up until about two weeks ago. As for Braylon Edwards, torn ACL in the right knee. The bad luck with first round draft picks continues in C-Town. Mike

I dont know where some of you guys get this stuff from. The guy has been better than good, and Bills fans need to wake up. From these stats, you have no idea if the QB held the ball too long or was forced into the sack because of pressure from the middle or the right side. I watch Mike gandy, and he has played as well as any LT Ive seen this year, including the top ones. No TE constantly, No RB chipping, just very good OL play comming from Gandy.
