meazza Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I would have liked it even better, if he could have traded somehow abovethe Steelers and grabbed Big Ben.....I like Losman....but Big Ben is very accurate.... 518109 After watch big ben the last 2 years, i think he would have had massive injuries behind this offensive line. We have trouble protecting pocket passers and I'm guessing that's why he opted with Losman
jahnyc Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Not sure that McGahee will turn out to be such a great pick. He was inactive his first year and I have a feeling that he will want a new contract or out of Buffalo next year. I would like to see how good he can be with a better oline. I think Clements was a great pick.

I think Clements was a great pick. 518414 I think McGahee is already a great pick by TD. Taking the plunge for an RB deemed a top 5 talent before his injury because he had correct faith in the Bills docs that he would be able to take the lead RB role after a year's plua recovery time made this a great pick. Reading the market correctly that he could pass on filling the Bills DE need until his second pick so that he could take the WM plunge was simply a phenomenal and gutsy read of the market. Knowing that TH was a ticking timebomb personally and keeping this under wraps as a rep for him (despite some very negative actions and comments by TH) was a fine read of a player and TD and the Bills sticking to their guns and eventually trading TH for a first day draft pick after his draft day plans went down the tubes was a great piece of GM led work as well. Having the opportunity to make the WM pick because the Bills simply took Arthur Blank and AT to the toolshed for Peerless was nothing short of a phenomenal get. WM is a great pick who may not work out if he gets hurt or never does exceed beyond his current very good performance to a level that demands a Pro Bowl pick. However, the reasonable choices it seems to me are WM turns out to a great pick that worked out if he makes the has a Pro Bowl season eventually or merely he was a great pick that did not turn out as well as we wanted. However, the pick is already is an extremely good piece of GM led work whether it works out as a good pick as it has to date or a extremely fortunate pick if he continues to excel for the Bills. TD ain't no where near perfect. MW was a bust. Josh Reed was a pick who did very good his first year and then went south as a player. The jury is still out on Losman's fate and wether Evans will take the Reed or Moulds route. However, only those who are biased against TD regardless of what he does would identify the events that surrounded the WM pick as anything but a great piece of GM led work that is at least good, reasonably can be called very good and still could be great in terms of results for the Bills.
Bill from NYC Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 No. We had to wait more than a season for him to produce. We also passed on Eric Steinbach whom we desperately needed, and never provided Willis with the blocking that he deserves/needs. Otoh, drafting Willis did lend itself to getting rid of a loser/drug addict, so in all, I would rate this a very good pick.
KD in CA Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Willis is #8 in the NFL in rushing yards this season. That with a terrible line and a rookie QB. Man, some people are hard to please!
jahnyc Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Yes, TD made a great move in getting a number one pick for P. Price. I also think that WM is a very good rb. What I am trying to point out is that if he plays for the Bills for a long period of time and plays well during that time, then he is a great pick. If he wants out of Buffalo, or if he demands a new deal, then combining that with his first year of not playing, he may not be a great pick. I like the Clements pick because he has excelled for five years. I also liked Steinbach.
colin Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 imo there are only 3 things that TD did or does wrong: 1 Coaches. He has been horrible in selecting coaches, this is by far his biggest problem. 2 Neglecting the lines. He needs to suck it up and put more money and picks (high picks) into our lines. with some FA guys this year i'd like to see him drop 10mill a year on C and LG in Hutch and Bently, we'd be a much better team there alone. We need the best DT in the draft as well. 3 Extending Drew. Getting drew here was a good move, we can see from 02 and now that drew can still play with the best of them. the extention they gave him was nuts, and it seemed like TD was going to go with a rook HC and a rook OC to hope to fix drew. If you drop new money on a player who is struggling you make sure you do everything to get him in the best position to win. MM and TC are clowns and came in with jack on their CVs, if he grabbed a guy loke Fassel (sp?) it would make sense to double up on drew and ride him, but this new QB, new OC and HC while extending drew shows he was not being smart about his decision. anyhow, TD is WAY above average at drafting value picks (look over his career in Pitts as mentioned above) signing and trading for FAs, and avoiding big contracts for over the hill players. if he can get our coaching and line stuff fixed this offseason (and I think he can) then I'll take TD.
