That's why they're only taking the "good" people, to weed out undesirable qualities. That's why the Others (clones) are faster and stronger, they've been genetically engineered. That's why they need so much power to run advanced technology and equipment. The "monsters" are genetic experiments (i.e. altering the genetics of a polar bear to acclimate it to a South Pacific climate). The timer is some sort of device which keeps the clones alive and on/around the island. If the island's security personell (Desmond, etc.) are killed and the device is not reset, it allows the detonation of some sort of electromagnetic pulse which destroys the matrix which keeps the clones (Others) alive. Apologies if this has already been explored. I only saw bits/pieces of the first season so if anybody can think of anything which supports this, flesh it out a little further and see what you come up with. Cya 518249[/snapback] I like it. And if that is the case, then why are the others still taking people...I doubt that they would be continuing the cloning after the Dharma experiment has gone kaput. I can see the logic behind it, b/c how else could a polar bear survive such hot temps, and then there's the Monster.... But I don't know if I'm down with it being a big human genetic experiment. For people bemoaning the lack of the Monster this season, bear in mind that Kate threw the dynamite down the hole, there was the black-smoke inhalation and then it was gone. But I am looking forward to seeing the "What Kate Did" ep next week. Some things I'd like to see again. I think coming back from this hiatus, the plots are going to get much better now that most of the background has been taken care of.
