plenzmd1 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Good post, Buftex. Lewis in CIN was very much interested in Simon. They are a bit cap-strapped (Palmer's contract to some extent), but I guess IND is in that boat, too...dunno. Only speculation, but perhaps Simon wanted to go to IND because of their legit SB possibilities. 515484 No he went there because they offered him the most jack played hard and wanted to stay in Buffalo for less money Never believe that kind of statement, only negoitiating position from an agent. TD did a bad job ditching rueben, we haven't found a LG since. Cmon now, who was unhappy to see Reuban leave. Prior to this year, most here agreed that TD was good at spotting the talent to let leave. We all liked to point out how few FAs, even going back to Butlers time, ever ending up doing much of anything. I still think TD does a good job at that, now finding quality replacements.......thats another story
macaroni Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Cmon now, who was unhappy to see Reuban leave. 515582 I was I was sorry to see him leave without a replacement plan ..... before that I was sorry to see Washington leave without a replacement plan (but we got lucky picking up Adams) ...... I was sorry to see Price leave without a suitable replacement (Josh Reed ....... ya right). I was sorry to see Henry leave without a good replacement (Willis can tout his abilities all he wants .... he still hasn't done as well as Travis behind an equally bad line). I'm also sorry to see Bledsoe gone without a viable replacement. Since we're talking specifically about DTs ...... Washington+Williams=good ....... Williams+scrub=bad ........ Williams+Adams=good ....... Adams+scrub=bad .... and to top this fieasco off .... the coaching staff is alienating Adams to the point he will most likely leave next year and we will be left with a DT tandem of Scrub+Scrub .... and I don't think I need to add that up for you. I guess quite a few of the aforementioned moves HAD to be made for one reason or another, so I'm not really bitching about the players leaving ..... what I AM upset about is the braintrust at One Bills drive have replaced the loses with the dregs of the NFL, or inexperianced rookies who up to this point can't play their way out of a paper bag ...... and it doesn't look like we have the coaching staff to help them.
ans4e64 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Worst offseason move ever. 514399 .......... Rob Johnson for a 1st and 3rd rounder.....
Ray Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I think most of us said it when it happened--what the freak is TD doing? It is not like he was asking for huge amounts of money in football terms. 4M/year to keep a great NT/DT for another 2 productive years. Pretty good value for my dollar. For those who don't think 1 player can lake a huge difference think of the worst run defense in the NFL--the Bills. They lost one guy--Big Pat. I have supported TD many times on personnel moves but absolutely hated the move to let PW go--PW is right, it was a dumb move and he proves it weekly.
smokinandjokin Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I did not say that....In fact m,entioned that in another thread.... One of the problems is this team did not stop the good teams against the run.. Teams like the Patriots and Steelers used their run games to run against this overrated defense even last year....with PW or without......This year they got to play some of the best RBs in the league, a Warrick Dunn, Larry Johnson, LT, Dillon, McCallister, Jordan.....The better backs have exposed this teams run defense even more.... Last year we beat the bad teams ike the 49ers, Rams, etc...who had no dominant run game.... 515481 I read through this thread because I was about to post the same thing. Everyone likes to remember our defense from the 6-game winning streak last year to cite how incredible they were. Where were they against Corey Dillon when he took a dump on them in the ESPN game? Baltimore's backup last year? Pittsburgh's 3rd stringer? I even remember Rudi Johnson doing quite the number on them without Palmer in at QB in the Cincy game. They shut down Shaun Alexander and Curtis Martin last year, the two leading rushers, but I'm not sure the rest of the competition was anything to brag about. It is easy to cite the play of our DT's as the major reason for the defense's decline, but no TKO is the more glaring weakness. With 3rd down being the major problem, the guy was a playmaker when it was the most necessary, and was strong in both run and pass coverage. They lost one guy--Big Pat. 516478 Spikes?

No one is interested in facts. Facts suck. The reality is this defense has been overrated for sometime and most of the success has been based on gimmickry. They wanted to be the best defense of all time but even with the recent statistical success they weren't even as good as Wade Phillips' defenses here. Those defenses played straight up and would physically beat your balls off.
Dawgg Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Agreed. Wade Phillips had the simplest of defenses and it was great fun to see us just physically out muscle the opposition. Those were the days The reality is this defense has been overrated for sometime and most of the success has been based on gimmickry. They wanted to be the best defense of all time but even with the recent statistical success they weren't even as good as Wade Phillips' defenses here. If he wants to sulk, under-perform and cry his way out of town it will be (imo) HIS doing. The man is said to have a history as such. Personally, I would be happy to see his fat ass ushered out the door. We are 4-7 with him, and I didn't see a whole lot of dropoff when he was out. There may have even been a very slight improvement, I don't know. If you think that I am defending TD, etc. you are wrong. I DO however assert that MM, not PW is the head football coach. Adams is being paid millions of dollars to play football, not to dictate terms. Honestly, I am sick of againg players such as Adams and Moulds getting all chesty. Their best days are behind them. Period. There really is no debate here. I am angered that they see fit to "call the shots." These two in particular are a great cap drain and their production is minimal as compared to the cost. We can pretend otherwise, but the Buffalo Bills need to be rebuilt. Adams and Moulds might be sentimental favorites to some, myself included. That said, losing them both in 06 would not be much of a loss. Not much at all imo.
Alaska Darin Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 What would you think of using the 3-4 in Buffalo, Darin (given the personnel)? 516580 We really don't have the front seven to do it, though I've always liked that defense better. The biggest problem is finding the anchor and a suitable backup - which we USED to have when Ted and PW were at their peak.
