lobottomee Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 The OL is the root cause of the Bill's problems. Consider this... Good OL makes a mediocre back look great. Mcgahee isn't mediocre Good OL gives rookie QB's time to look over the field Good OL allows sieve-like DL time to contemplate the bench heaters Good OL demoralizes opponents Good OL lets slow receivers get open. Evans and Roscoe aren't slow. Good OL keeps allows opposing offense time to contemplate the bench heaters Does it get any simpler than this? Basice football 101. Why doesn't TD get it? Stop thinking fancy TD!! The OL is the equivalent of tires on a car. No matter how good the engine and the driver, the race is lost unless the tires are good. Doh!!!

Doh!!! 514010 everyone knows its the oline... this won't be addressed now, maybe with all the running around and having to complete plays on the run will make losman get used to playing while running for his life and will be a lot better when he actually gets a decent OLine in front of him
Rico Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Devil's Advocate here: So, say instead of taking Roscoe and Everett, the Bills took an OG and OT this draft. Do you really think this year would've been much different? . Looking at who was available, I'd have to say no. What about Shelton, Verba, or DeMulling? Would they have really helped this year? Again, no. Re-sign Jonas? No.
BRH Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 How much do you think cutting Tucker helped this team? He wasn't a great talent, but he came to play every Sunday, which is more than I can say for those two sacks of stojan we've had at LG this year.

It is reasonable to assume, however, that a decent general manager can build a decent O-line -- particularly one coached for the last two years by Jim McNally -- over FIVE off-seasons. TD hasn't come close to doing that.

colin Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 player wise it is the oline, but overall i'd say it is coaching
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Actually, Bledsoe is the root cause.
Rico Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Actually, Bledsoe is the root cause. 514062 Yes, it may take purging everyone who ever played with him or coached him before we can truly move forward.

Fan in San Diego Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I agree. If we had a decent OL this would be a dramatically different team right now. We have good players at the skill positions but we suck at the OL positions which kills everything else. TD has really screwed the pooch when it concerns the OL. Can he fix it in one off season ?
KnightRider Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Root cause is fine and good, but, did you do a Pareto Diagram and 5-why chart? The OL is the root cause of the Bill's problems. Not great...but they plugged him in at RG when Vilarial was out...why not plug him in at LG and let him get some playing time and develop? This team is a mess purley because the OL is horrible and Jim McNally hasn't played a snap all year.

No. 514027 There's a guy playing in Tampa right now who was selected in the 4th Round (107th overall) that has given up 1.0 sack in 11 starts and a guy I was calling for us to select by the name of Dan Buenning. Which is far better than our two headed attack of Anderson/Williams. Sure we might have questions about our OTs but at least we'd have a potential solution at LG.

Were you here last year and the constant bitching about the QB?
radio dude Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Simple observation folks...the game's won in the trenches. Look at the successful teams and see how their o-line and d-lines stack up...the Bills better have have their eyes on D'Brickshaw Ferguson (OT from Va.) or the Winston tackle from "The U." Tom Ashowrth from the Pats may be had (another raid of the Pats for Donahoe?) Or, on defense, the sack machine Dumervil from Lousiville. Or, a DT that could be had who's unrestricted is Larry Triplett from the Colts. ANY of these guys would be an upgrade over the current lot on the roster!
