Mikie2times Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Free Bird By solo I mean any extended part in the song with no lyrics, with a focus on the lead.
Alaska Darin Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Coli's gonna have you for lunch. Cheers.

MadBuffaloDisease Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Lots of them. But I'd have to say "Eruption." That's what started it all for me.
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Ernie Isley (Isley Brothers) in "Who's That Lady?".
justnzane Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 jack white of the white stripes in seven nation army... while it may be newer than most of the stuff that you guys listen to, you should listen to that solo. Jack Whit is probably the best guitarist out there right now. The thing that holds him back is that he is not in a big time band and his sister is average at drums.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Free Bird By solo I mean any extended part in the song with no lyrics, with a focus on the lead. 504130[/snapback] Free Bird is the "Dancing Queen" of classic rock. Eric Clapton, Crossroads. Or the end of SRV's "Couldn't Stand The Weather".
Ghost of BiB Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Man...tons of them, though Coli is going to hit us hard, here. SRV "Texas Rain"? Most Segovia. A lot of Les Paul. Deep Purple "Lazy". Have to think. And, that's hard. I don't like thinking. It's work.

I don't know if that solo is really that interesting aside from the fact that he is using a slide. The solo doesn't really differentiate that much from the main riff of the song. Best guitarist I think is a stretch, but he certainly does write catchy songs.

Buftex Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Mick Jones (Clash) on "Overpowered By Funk" (great solo, not the greatest song!) Keef Richard "Sympathy for the Devil" (love the original, and the solo on the live version from the "Stones at the Maxx" video is pretty tasty too!)
stuckincincy Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Most anything by Roy Clark or BB King.
Dan III Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 A couple that immediately jumped to mind: All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Johnny B. Goode- Chuck Berry
The Dean Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 While Jimi H and Roy Buchanan have a thousand great solos...too many to sort out and mention here. My bet is most will be covered. A couple you bums won't get to are: Larry Carlton's solo in Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne" Carlos Santana's "Europa" Oops...meeting...more later
ieatcrayonz Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 A couple that immediately jumped to mind: All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Johnny B. ajzepp Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I don't know if this qualifies, but for some reason I love the very subtle guitar of Jeff Buckley just before the final verse of Hallelujah.....I just love the entire cover, but that solo guitar in the end is almost hypnotic.
