Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 and cut out of formation early supposed to be doing that? It didn't look right to me... 502208 Don't know, didn't see...but generally, if they have any inkling of a fault, they'll abort the flyover rather than risk a flight (and potential crash) over a packed stadium. With the obvious caveat of a fault occurring right at that moment (clearly possible, clearly long odds against it - and by the way, smoke coming from a plane indicates a major problem. There's very few failures that will start a plane smoking without some sort of advanced warning), it was probably some sort of planned display.
Talonz Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Probably a display to represent fallen veterans?
Estro Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Representing fallen comrades... ala veterans day, just my take on it
bbb Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I know - that's what I said - they already had the missing man formation - so why the guy with the smoke trailing the other way? When are they going to bring back the jets for flyovers?!?
Mile High Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 wasn't that the missing man formation? 502237 Yes.
cåblelady Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I wondered why they were so late after the singing of the National Anthem. Then they announced they were World War II planes. Very cool.
Tortured Soul Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 wasn't that the missing man formation? 502237 These formations have meaning? Do you have a link where they're explained?
SouthernMan Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Yes. 502337 Seems to me if they really wanted to demonstrate the missing man formation, they just wouldn't show up at all - maybe just put in the program that there was supposed to be a flyover.
colin Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 fly overs get me so psyched i kick my mom in the face!
scribo Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 These formations have meaning? Do you have a link where they're explained? 502386 Big meaning... http://www.aiipowmia.com/histories/histformation.html
gflande1 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 When are they going to bring back the jets for flyovers?!? 502328 I assume your asking about the F-16s? We haven’t been asked, plus due to funding (war) I doubt we (Syracuse) would be able to do it. It costs a lot of money. I wondered why they were so late after the singing of the National Anthem. 502374 Most times it’s because of the singer singing the National Anthem. The performance is timed during rehearsal. That time is given to the pilots. Once the Anthem starts, someone on the ground tells the pilots, they then use that time to hit the flyover at the exact time.... At the NASCAR race in Watkins Glen, the F-16s were a little late, because of a fast National Anthem.
Tortured Soul Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Big meaning... http://www.aiipowmia.com/histories/histformation.html 502391 Thnaks. I had no idea. I just thought it depended on how many planes were available.
smuvtalker Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Seems to me if they really wanted to demonstrate the missing man formation, they just wouldn't show up at all - maybe just put in the program that there was supposed to be a flyover. 502388
