cmh6476 Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 you guys should have never let todd collins go
Shamrock Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 If I'm reading this right your premise suggests someone has crystal balls that allow them to tell the one promising 5th or later round QB from the 25 who will never start an NFL game? 499043 ...sort of like takin a kid called Terrell Davis after Ryan Christopherson a RB...
The Jokeman Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 you guys should have never let todd collins go 499277 It could been worse, we could of let go of our "backup" QB to our most hated division rival who went on to be a league MVP and lead his team to a Super Bowl.
rockpile Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 When KC's LJ and SD's LT combine for 400 yards rushing over the next 2 weeks, the playoff fantasy will vanish and JP will be back in. 499000 Band Wagon Jumper!
rockpile Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 So, you think our defense is going to pick it up a notch??? 499014 Fair Weather Fan!

smuvtalker Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I wonder what the danger is of not getting the football to your "young" wide receiver. Last season, Evans showed good hands and even better breakaway speed. He got the ball into the endzone, and softened up defenses. We used the 13th pick of a draft to get him, and he certainly looked like a decent pick, especially with Moulds getting old. Now, Moulds is that much older. He might not even be here next season, and Evans is not getting enough tosses his way, or so it seems. In summary, they are having trouble scoring points, yet they are not getting the football to the receiver who is most likely to do so. Hard to figure, ya know? 499226 Man you really hit the nail on the head with that one. I remember reading some article saying that Lee Evans is having a major sophomore jinx. What bullcrap. He hasn't had the ball thrown his way, and when it is, it's either grossly over or under thrown. I really hope that the powers that be devise a way to get him the ball. His growth is being severely stunted. This kid proved he is a gamebreaker, and we're just letting him rot. Excellent point Bill.
SHOUTBOX MONSTER! Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 So basically, if we started Rob Johnson in 1998, we would have Tom Brady at QB now? Damn. How'd we mess that up?
The Jokeman Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 So basically, if we started Rob Johnson in 1998, we would have Tom Brady at QB now? Damn. How'd we mess that up? 499383 The truth is Rob Johnson never developed in part because of his injury history and that we did bench him in 1998. I do think had we went with him that entire season we would have known just how good or bad he truly was as a QB.

Bflojohn Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Obie Wan hit on the secret formula.... drafting a QB every year! Ron Wolf during his Green Bay Packer tenure took Mark Brunell, Aaron Brooks, Matt Hasselback, and had Kurt Warner in camp (free agent). The truth is that the Packers showcased these guys during the preseason ( did Favre really need the work?) and repeated the benefits in draft choices coming back because other teams simply can't find a quality starter at that position with both hands!! Look at Cincinnati and their futile attempt to "find" a QB..... David Klingler and Akili Smith come rushing to mind! Those two set the Bengals back years!! The blueprint is there, but organizations don't trust their own judgement on this position.

Rob Johnson (Flutie's still in the League, RJ is not...), Travis Brown, Drew Bledsoe, and then trotting out JP Losman for the first four games of a year with high playoff expectations. Ron Wolf had a nice run, but Donahoe's track record is beginning to look a bit like Ozzie Newsome's (who in every other respect is a top-flight NFL GM, and superior drafter, BTW). JDG
Bflojohn Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Your points are well recieved JDG and Ganesh, hence, Tom Donahoe eventually will be on "thin ice" if he continues his trend of QB flops, although it is much too early to declare J.P. Losman that yet... The position itself is difficult to play and, as a result, team fortunes are won and lost with choices made there. Finally, it is NOT so much trusting TD, as hoping he has gotten it right, this time!

JDG
Bflojohn Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 As you say, it becomes a timing matter and Tom Donahoe would NOT be the first GM who didn't reap the benefits of a star QB in the making. The wait (unfortunately) is half the battle! Those are the demands on a present day GM and he knows it, I guess... it ALL boils down to "will JP Losman develop into what we want as fans, a bonified star at that position."

JDG 499940 Exactly....That is why they should have stuck with JP and work out the problems....The guy played two playoff caliber teams, one at home and other on the road and the Defense left him high and dry in both the games..
PromoTheRobot Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 So, you think our defense is going to pick it up a notch??? 499014 BAM!! Is that the sound of London Fletcher making a tackle or getting stiff-armed silly? PTR

Where do we dry the line on evaluating a qb?
