Mark VI Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I'm going to eat halloween candy and watch an old B&W movie instead.
HAMMER07 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Tonight is the SECOND CONSECUTIVE GAME back for Tedy Brewski after suffering an almost deadly stroke less than a year ago. Please folks, tape or TiVo the game. If not for yourself, for your children and posterity reasons. I'm getting choked up just thinking about it. Wow, to be alive today and witness such a heroic event. Go Tedy! 497110 Nothing to do but ressurect this crap? Loser.

Orton's Arm Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 i'm pretty sure I used the proper grammar there. I believe the word historic SHOULD be preceded by AN not A. 497212 You are correct.
Dennis in NC Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 A co-worker Pats fan tried to convince me to root for the Pats tonight, citing how it would be rooting against Peyton Manning. I'm not a Peyton fan, either, but root for the Pats? No dice, pal.
billsfanmiami(oh) Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 They already referred to Tedy as "the comeback king". They haven't even started the game!
Rayzer32 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 This just in.......................Tedy Bruschi (We're not worthy!) named AFC defensive player of the week for week 9.
rockpile Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 i'm pretty sure I used the proper grammar there. I believe the word historic SHOULD be preceded by AN not A. 497212 I was ripped a new plug hole for using historic, preceded by "an" instead of "a". I was accused of being pompous and pretentious or some such pap. We all know I am just plain ignerant.

Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 "Tonight is an historic night!!!" 497207 "A" historic night. The rule is: if the beginning "h" is pronounced, as in "house" or "historic" or "hobbit", use "a". If it's not pronounced ("honor", "Hermitage"), use "an". So it is, in fact, a historic night, but an honor to watch a hero like Bruschi (We're not worthy!). Yes, I know most of you think I'm making this up. I'm not. That is the actual grammatical rule of English. The alternative ("an history"), is bull sh-- made up by idiots who have nothing better to do with their time.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 The alternative ("an history"), is bull sh-- made up by idiots who have nothing better to do with their time. You mean the British?

This is an interesting game, rather than this is a interesting game.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 You mean the British? 497396 Actually, I was thinking of Democrats.

Rayzer32 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Really? Thanks for clearing that up. 497400 Come on now, I wasn't giving you crap. Have some love brother.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Come on now, I wasn't giving you crap. Have some love brother. 497403 Then what WERE you trying to do? Is there anyone who didn't learn that in second grade?
Rayzer32 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Then what WERE you trying to do? Is there anyone who didn't learn that in second grade? 497405 On this board? Are you serious?
aussiew Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 We all know I am just plain ignerant. Yeah - but you're cute too!

The alternative ("an history"), is bull sh-- made up by idiots who have nothing better to do with their time. 497394 The alternative--an history--has its roots in the Norman conquest and the resulting mix between French and English. The letter H tends to be silent in French. This resulted in a situation where, in English, the letter H is sometimes treated as silent for a/an purposes even when the H is pronounced.
rockpile Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Ah, the plug hole ripper has returned. I knew you would. "A" historic night.
