Agreed

Quite frankly, the Simpsons may go down as the best sitcom of all time.

Seinfeld > Simpsons I'd say

There's too many to count. Two that come to mind that really cracked me up were:

1) Lisa and Marge go to clean up after an oil spill, leaving Homer and Bart at home, and Bart ends up working in the burlesque house.

2) Homer pledging $$ to PBS, and then having to fly to the island as a missionary.

"Dad, are you licking toads again?"

"I'm not NOT licking toads."

The monorail episode is probably my favorite.

While we're bringing up quotes, I have to mention the one that almost always comes up in every day conersations with my friends.

-The doll is cursed.

-That's bad.

-But it comes with a free frogurt.

That's good!

-The frogurt is also cursed.

-That's bad.

-But you get your choice of toppings.

-That's good!

-The toppings contain potassium benzoate.

-...

-That's bad.

The opening of family guy last night was classic. Thats one thing I don't think they did before this year, but so far we've had the law & order opening, and the naked gun opening.

Stewie flying with his big-wheel through the legs of the AT-AT

Eating red carpet

Yes....here in 2005.

But back in the day, over 10 years ago, when The Simpsons was in its prime, it was unstoppable. Not only were those episodes hilarious but they've stood the test of time. I've probably seen all my favorite Simpsons episodes 25x each and I still love them.

Family Guy is the funniest show on TV but who knows if it will stand the test of time? There were a couple Family Guy episodes that I saw once and I loved but haven't liked them as much when seeing them a 2nd and 3rd time on Adult Swim or TBS.

American Dad is probably the least funny cartoon I've ever seen. Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021 are amazing. Futurama was better than The Simpsons even when it was on about 5 years ago. Simpsons has been on life support for a decade now.

Best Simpsons episode:

Monorail one

Asteroid one ("Despite the fact that the bridge is out, many citizens are trying to jump it with their cars. It is a silent testiment to the "Never say die, never think things through" attitude of our town." - Artie's eye in the sky traffic helicopter)

The one where Troy McClure marries Selma

The episodes were any of the three kids are born ("Marge, you're as pretty as Princess Leia and as smart as Yoda.")

I completely agree. Family guy is pretty funny, but The Simpsons were in a complete league of their own. There were a few episodes back when it was firing on all cylinders that you couldn't keep up with all the obscure references, site gags, trash pop culture, and musical numbers that would get packed into 25 minutes. Note that this was way before DVR/TiVo and massive use of the internet. They would put stuff into the freaking background that no one would ever absorb on a conscious level.

I too have seen some of those episodes dozens of times, and I still laugh out loud when I see them on. Hands down...best sitcom ever, maybe the best series ever.

Another classic is from one of the Halloween episodes where they were having a flashback to how Groundskeeper Willy became Freddy Krueger.

The voiceover was:

It all started at an emergency meeting for parents at the elementary school to discuss the misprinted school calenders that added an extra month to the year.

Homer comes in out of the snow, looks at the calender on the wall that says "Smarch", and grumbles "Lousy Smarch weather..."

It's easy to get a laugh out of something lewd but the quick "Smarch" gag was priceless.

I like the Fact Stewie ran over Homer, Freaking Hilarious

and Might I add I love both....

I love Family Guy, makes me laugh hard each time...

But the Simpsons are like Seasoned Veterans where you remember everything they have done

Peter comes into the garage, says "Hi Stewie", looks down at where Homer's fallen, and says "Who the hell is that?"

Priceless. :D:o

My favorite Simpsons episodes:

Brush With Greatness -- the second season episode where Marge paints a portrait of Mr. Burns naked. Greatest closing line in history: Mr. Burns says to Marge: "Thanks for not making fun of my genitalia." Marge turns to Homer and says, "I thought I did." :P:lol:

Colonel Homer -- where Homer is tempted to leave Marge for the country singer he's managing, Lurleen Lumpkin.

The Monorail Episode -- we all know that one.

It's interesting that I've seen "Homer vs. New York" on TV after 9/11. That episode did prominently feature the World Trade Center.

Mike
