More bad news

PARIS - French    President Jacques Chirac on Sunday promised arrests, trials and punishment for those sowing "violence or fear" across France — as the urban unrest that has triggered attacks on vehicles, nursery schools and other targets hit central Paris for the first time.
Nursery schools?

What we notice is that the bands of youths are, little by little, getting more organized," arranging attacks through cell phone text messages and learning how to make gasoline bombs, Hamon said.

Police also found a gasoline bomb-making factory in a derelict building in Evry south of Paris, with more than 100 bottles ready to turned into bombs, another 50 already prepared, as well as fuel stocks and hoods for hiding rioters' faces, senior Justice Ministry official Jean-Marie Huet told The Associated Press. Police arrested six people, all under 18.

The discovery Saturday night, he said, shows that gasoline bombs "are not being improvised by kids in their bathrooms."

Police said copycat attacks are fanning the unrest but had no evidence of separate gangs coordinating. Officials said older youths, many already with police records, appear to be teaching younger teens arson techniques.

Oh look, a bomb factory.....

What French riots? I haven't seen anything about those on the front page of Rochester's D&C, but they did have a nice front page article titled "Rioters vent rage at Bush, U.S. at Americas summit" yesterday.

I'm impressed.

Of course, this tragedy is terrible.

But Im sorry...there is something just DELICIOUS about watching a bunch of people, and thats Europe as a whole, who have spent the last few years looking down their collective noses at us, drown in their own filth. Racism, 25% unemployment. Inability to quell social unrest....on and on.

WHAT were you azzholes saying about us? What? WHAT?????

Somehow, this is going to get blamed on us.

And somewhere, some visible political idiot - probably a looney California Democrat - is going to agree.

Isn’t it ironic how the French leadership especially Chirac seems to be escaping blame from most of the world media. I have not seen one negative poll nor insult or scorn thrown his way. If this was happening in the US, the world media would be calling for Bush to be tried in a criminal tribunal in front of the whole world and would probably go as far as to explain to us how 911 happened because of our policies towards Muslims.

Meanwhile the Democrats in the state would lead the charge for impeachment proceedings against Bush.

Or, how to get to "DEMS BAD" in three easy steps...

But it's OK when it suits your agenda...

Just telling it like it is. Shouldn’t you be beating the “Bush Lied On WMD” horse again with the rest of the Dems. ;)

Yeah, because, like, I say that stuff all the time.

"Just telling it like it is." Rock-solid argument there. How about, "just telling it like I want it to sound to so as to marginalize the other side by placing them in a fictional situation that fits my picture of them and suits my agenda nicely, rather than fostering any sort of interesting or meaningful political discourse, meanwhile guffaws abound from the echo chamber."

Why don't you just get back to your finger pointing and pretending your side's not a part of the problem? I know you will... ;)

I’ll stick with “just telling it like it is”.

I was trying to think of a corresponding right-wing comparison...but I can't imagine even the looniest far-right fundamentalist Christian Pat Robertson groupie blaming anything on the US...hell, some of those morons think the Bible was written in English, they're so nationalistic.

But I have personally known some far-left radicals who would blame the Paris riots on the American oppression of the Palestinians via our client state of Israel, and insist we pay reparations. Not many...but idiots exist on both sides of the aisle.

From an email my friend sent a few moments ago. She lives in Nanterre, just outside Paris where some of the rioting took place. Just for a perspective.

Still quiet in my area (too much money in drugs selling to follow the movement, i guess) but i'm amazed on how your media deal with our riots!

I'm angry after reading the NY Times and CNN news. Is it current to notice the parents' (or even grandparents') nationality about those guys? I mean why do they call the rioters Arabs?

They're teens and they were born in France, like most of their parents.

Not really objective, huh?

We ceased being a "melting pot" where everyone was American a long time ago...so why would it be surprising that we see other countries the same way?

I can imagine a riot taking place in some place in LA, and the rioters being referred to as "Africans" or "Mexicans" in the press, can't you?
