I'm not so sure about that. A couple of big differences:

 

1) Pro dart players are ridiculously good. They can hit the triple 20 pretty much at will, far superior to even very good casual players. One of the big draws with poker is that a decent player can hold his own against pros. It's just the nature of the game.

 

2) In poker, the pros have different styles of play, different personalities. In darts, there isn't a lot of strategy other than getting the math right so you have a good 'out' number. Fans tend to get attracted to their favorite players (like in golf) as much as they do to the event itself.

 

3) Poker is easy to play and with a lot of people. You pretty much have to be in a bar to play darts, so that takes away the under 21 crowd and a lot of others.
