Mark VI
From todays Buff News.. Defensive tackle Sam Adams played an unfamiliar position Sunday night - bench warmer. One snap on a goal-line series was his only action in the second half as the Bills relied on a rotation of Tim Anderson, Justin Bannan and Lauvale Sape. "It was just a decision we made to go with the younger guys," Mularkey said. Adams said he was benched. "They took me out of the game because they said I wasn't making any plays," he said. "They put the guys in there who they thought could make the plays to help us win the game." Adams was composed when discussing his benching. But he clearly wasn't pleased. With the free agent departure of Pat Williams and the season-ending injury to Ron Edwards, Adams is the Bills' only proven defensive tackle. "Obviously I haven't proven anything to (the coaches)," said Adams, a three-time Pro Bowler. "It looks like they are moving in a different direction, so I just have to do my best to support my teammates." Adams suffered a similar benching in a game early last season, and responded with a strong finish en route to a Pro Bowl selection. He still has a year left on his contract, but he's getting the feeling that his time in Buffalo is growing short. "I'll do whatever my role is here for the time that I'm here," Adams said. "Obviously, I'm not in the future plans." No problem. We have so much quality depth at that position. OMG. We may need AT LEAST 3 new faces at DT, to go with 3-4 new faces on the OL. So TD will draft a TE/Deep Snapper in the first round, I'm guessing...
bills_fan
I was just going to bring this up. WTF???? What happened there? Its not like the Bills stopped the run last nite. Dillon did what he wanted running the ball. Its pretty obvious the Pats miss Weis, I thought their play-calling was suspect. If they had Weis, I'll bet Dillon runs the ball 25 times, like last season's debacle. Nevertheless, not playing Adams?? I don't get it. He's the only bona-fide star on that DL and they may let him go???? Thats awful.
Realist
I'm really starting to hate this caoching staff. If they feel Adams wasn't making any plays, I wonder what their thought on Holcomb is now?

I'm quite sure Sam Adams will not be in Buffalo next Year...I imagine the current TD/TM Plan will be thrown out the window to be replaced by another 3 Year Plan to tack on to the existing one...Whatever... Rubes
It's a head scratcher, really. My guess is that Gray and Adams disagree on how he should be used, and Adams vision just doesn't fit with the master plan. Sounds like it might be the old fit-the-players-to-the-scheme or fit-the-scheme-to-the-players argument.
e-dog
Boy TD has really f-ed up this team. If Adams leaves after the season you have Anderson, Sape, Bannen, and an injured Edwards at dt. The o-line needs a left tackle, left guard, counting on an unproven Preston at center as Teague is gone, and a right tackle who want play with any type of a scratch. Schobel played well last night but remember he was playing against a rookie. These lines are in terrible shape. Good job TD keep up your good work you loser. smokinandjokin
Bannann played okay, he was disruptive on several plays. But none of those clowns replace Fat Sam. Anderson doesn't have it.

Coming into this football game, the Bills were 31st in defending the run. I don't lay the blame on Big Sam mind you, but whether on his own or by design, me seems to lunge himself out of plays and backs are running by him, even those that are old and/or injured. If letting him go could bring us substantial cap space, hey, whatever. How much do you think that we could get for him in a trade?

e-dog
You want some cap space then go all the way. Adams, Moulds, Mikey, Teague, Fletcher, Vincent, Milloy, Vill., all are on the wrong side of the age scale, except mikey but I think everyone is on to him, so blow it up and start over because this team is not winning anything. 34-78-83
Adams is playing like he did when PW was here and that is the problem. He had the luxury last year of having Pat sit back at the LOS and play gap control while Sam rushed up the field. I imagine that now that he is still rushing upfied on every down while there is no traditional gap control DT sitting back, he is pissing off the coaches due to the huge gaps he's leaving (see early in the game last night). Sam seems to have become an upfield disrupter only in his latter years and can no longer (or is not willing to ) stay home and play the scheme they are asking him too. Spiderweb
I do recall one pass play early in the game (late 1st quarter or early 2nd) where Sam began his rush with the usual double team, only this time when the second Patsie engaged him, he was knocked flat on his rather large posterior. Note that they moved Sam from being next to Shobel (last year) to lining up beside Kelsay/Denny. Sam misses Phat Pat.

Sam Adams takes himself out of plays over and over again, because he's too agressive. he's obviously disobeying the coaches and perhaps he's overpursuing. I noticed once he was out of the game, they allowed the DT's to bullrush up the middle, and kept 1-2 LB's right in the middle to compensate for the pass rushing DT's. It worked pretty well.
