So far the MVP of the season is.......

Recommended Posts

It also bears stating that being unhappy with Lindell last year and happy with him this year is NOT something one ought to apologize for, nor does it make you a bad fan or fair weather or whatever.

It's absolutely justified to have been displeased with Lindell last year because he was not playing at nearly the same level. Last year, Lindell was ridiculously inconsistent and sometimes would miss FGs that were chip shots. That deserved some raggin'.

This year, Lindell is playing great. He's hitting kicks he should make, plus kicks you wouldn't expect him to. This deserves praise.

There hasn't been any in this thread, I'm just saying that there's nothing worse than a "oh, you're all stupid for not liking Lindell last year" post (equally as bad as "let's run this player out of town after a single bad game") when, in reality, Lindell did not deserve to be liked last year. This year he does.

And we're all happy it's turned out this way.

I think the thing folks should apologize for is not their displeasure with Lindell last year or the year before but with their failure to recognize the good parts of his game and the false claim that he was bad at everything.

Don't get me wrong, Lindell was bad at FG accuracy last year and between missing the chip shot against Pitts and clearly generating no confidence in MM with his kicks beyond 40 yds his FG game was simply bad, bad, bad.

Hiowever, many posters simply failed to acknowledge the reality that Lindell was simply extrarodinarily good on kick offs last year and teamed with the tacklers on the ST last year to master the tricky winds of the Ralph and difficulty of enemy fields to generate a virtually perfect kickoff game last year.

FGs are critical certainly, but in the end they mostly are for show and the kickoffs are for dough and Lindell and the ST were a huge part of the win streak last year. You team this up with some very good performance by Lindell with onside kicks last year (he performed on 2 of 3 chances onside last year with Rashad Baker having a shot at recovery (all you can really ask for from a kicker) and actually kicking and recovering one himself) and though Lindell simply sucked at FG length and accuracy he was superb at kickoffs and onside work.

Folks do not deserve being ragged on for complaining about Lindell last year and the long-term stupid comment from TD that good kickers are a dime a dozen, but they do deserve being ragged on for not seeing the very good parts of his game last year. It simply shows a misunderstanding of the game by folks to not recognize that Lindell did a great job on an important part of the game last year. it was the difficulty in replacing his kickoff work which was why there never was really any serious competition for him this off-season even though most fans had written his obituary.

What was Lindell last year? Was it 24 out of 28 attempts? Better than 85% and that stinks? Sure he missed a couple key kicks, especially the big kicks against Pitt, but all kickers miss, even Vinateri from time to time. Sure, he wasn't great, but also not deserving of the wrath he faced last year either.

As for MVP, I'd have to agree with AD, even though he could have been far more civil and less arrogant in his opinion, which frequently detracts from many excellent points he makes.

Point #1: You're out of your mind. I don't care if a kicker wins all 16 on last second figgies, kicks every kickoff out of the endzone on the fly, and waxes every car in the parking lot between his maybe 10 plays a game - there's no way they're the friggin' MVP.

Point #2: If you're even contemplating that your kicker is your MVP, your team sucks.

!@#$ I hate the media generation.

Not even Brian Moorman last year!! :w00t:

It has to be McGahee at this point....

100+ against Houston

32    against TB

140  against Atlanta

100+  against NO

88 tough yards against Miami

140  against NYJ

He is the biggest weapon on an avg. team.....They need to give him the

ball more when we are in the endzone.

Why would we give him the ball more if we are already in the endzone. Unless you meant red zone. Then I would agree. The problem is Tom Clements still thinks that passing the ball from 5 yard line is a play that is going to yield consistnet results.
