stevewin Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 I remember reading some similar things after last week (and the week before). It is amazing they are having such fundamental problems week after week. "We just aren't playing very good, disciplined football right now," defensive tackle Sam Adams said. "It's embarrassing. The things that we were able to have success with in the past, we're not doing them. It's not rocket science. If a man is in a gap, they can't run in it. It's that simple." "On some of those plays we weren't in the right places, and there was some confusion on the field with miscommunication and things like that," defensive end Chris Kelsay added. "We've got to play better." BN

It seems sometimes that DC Grey is overly concerned with long gains, while the opposition happily and succesfully chips away.

stuckincincy Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) So you're saying that Gray is going Cottrell on us? 462862[/snapback] Don't know about that. Grey seems to think that the defense can dictate. It happens, but it's rare. The offense calls it's plays, knows where it is going, and has the snap count. An advantage. Unless there are exceptional circumstances (such as a front four of legendary stature), one should not expect that a defense can dictate, and Grey (he's not alone) does not realize that the purpose of a defense is not to beat an offense...the goal is to not let an offense beat them. A subtle difference in philosophy. And it's Military Tactics 101. Edited October 3, 2005 by stuckincincy
