Fezmid Posted October 2, 2005 Author Posted October 2, 2005 Guys, I gotta say. I went to see it tonight and I was underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it did'nt suck, but it was'nt anything special. As far as I was concerned it was pretty formulatic. Nothing really inovative and at times the acting seemed amateurish. Not trying to be the devils advocate I went inot the movie pretty psyched looking for the next great thing in sci-fi. Fella's, this isnt it. Maybe if you are a fan of the series it means something different dont know. 460388 I saw the movie today and thought it was fantastic. Put some closure to the series (although I hope they do a trilogy...). I'm curious what other sci-fi movies you've seen in the last couple of years that you think are better than this one? War of the Worlds wasn't even close IMHO. Star Wars, maybe, but only because of the history; as a standalone, forget it. Hitchhikers Guide? No way... Can't really think of too many other sci-fi movies recently, sadly enough. That said, it definately wouldn't hurt to see the series (or at least the first few episodes) first. It's hard to get a lot of charater development into a 2 hour movie, especially with the vast number of characters on the show/series. Overall, I think it's an excellent movie, better than 99% of the other stuff that's released. CW

This movie is getting alot of positive press and I guess I was hoping for the next Alien or Thing. And I cant really say that there has been a better sci fi movie made in the last few years. I think the only one I could say was clearly more entertaining from a story point of few was the last Star Wars one. Id say that was better. But what the hell, too each his own.
BillsWatch Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I do not want to give away much of the movie so I'll be brief. I really liked the movie but there was too much play on the villian IMO who did a very good acting job. It felt a bit that Serenety and crew were guest starring in their own movie at times. Too little of Sheperd Book, one character I really wanted to know more of when watching series. No way River was 17 as said in movie, maybe I could have believed 17 when series was on but 17 is like saying Sam Adams is 330 pounds! Started a bit like the series but ended as something else.

Yeah, that part annoyed me as well. They didn't even need to say anything, as it was such a throwaway line. I also think that the Mal/Inara interactions would've been confusing to anyone who hadn't seen the show. The Simon/Kaylee thing was a bit forced as well if you didn't know the history (and even knowing the history, it didn't quite feel natural IMHO). But I'm nitpicking too much; overall, it was an excellent movie. CW

We both know what both of us are thinking. So much for the high road.
Fezmid Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 Well, Serenity finished in 2nd place this week with $10.1 Million. If you havn't seen it yet, you really should; excellent writing and one of the best sci-fi movies of recent years. CW
gantrules Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Upon the suggest I went to see it this weekend. Great suggestion, possibly one of the best movies of the year. It's about time someone used character development with the special effects. I have never watched the TV show, but I'll check it out now!

CW 463233 Yes the movie cut out a bit of the characterization. Ron Glass barely got any lines in the movie (my understanding is writer did not want to do 1st movie without him); during the series he has some great ones.

Fez encouraged me to just go ahead and buy the series on dvd and I'm pretty happy with the decision. I love the fact that it's in widescreen and the audio is quite good, but even better is the fact that it's really a damn entertaining show. I sit there and look down at the timer and can't believe how fast each episode flies by. You can find it for like $29-35, and it's worth every penny. Good stuff!

I have not bought the DVD yet. Info on Firefly/Serenty from SciFi Channel: http://www.scifi.com/firefly/ Anybody already a Browncoat and need a credit for recruiting someone?

Info on Firefly/Serenty from SciFi Channel: http://www.scifi.com/firefly/ Anybody already a Browncoat and need a credit for recruiting someone? 464255 There's only 14 episodes in the entire series, and all are being shown on Sci-Fi. If you like the series, and like listening to commentary on DVD, then you'll probably want to buy it; over half the episodes have commentary on them and it's all really good. They talk about some of the secrets they were showing (but don't tell us what they are, "just in case.") For example, Inara has a big secret, but they don't share it at all, aside from a few bits and peices. I'm a browncot and would like the credits CW
BillsWatch Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Those are two of the last episodes of the series. CW 464232 But SciFi Channel is continuing showing of FireFly at least through Friday Nov 18 on Fridays. I assume longer but since Nov 25 is rest after getting stuffed on turkey day, I can not see any further. My guess is that they will show entire series at least twice,
Fezmid Posted October 5, 2005 Author Posted October 5, 2005 If you want to join the Browncoats, here's a link: http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/?u=Fezmid I think that gives me credit. If not, no big deal. CW
Fezmid Posted October 5, 2005 Author Posted October 5, 2005 That was amazing.. 465547 Then be sure to spread the word. You can't stop the signal!! CW
