Old fact about old cars. The term "look out for number one" is rooted in the Ford Model T. The motor had "splash" lubrication - no oil pump.

 

The engine had 3 main bearings, and if one ran the buggy uphill for an extended period, the front-most crankshaft bearing could and did fail due to gravity.

 

Fortunately, bearings were avaliable so after a delay, they were able to go on their way thanks to those that who made sure such bearings would be there for the motorist to carry on.

I really appreciate the post. In the early days, many cars were built by basically bicycle makers. Serious marketing back then. Got Eddie Rickenbacher his start.
