Hardy Pyle Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 ...I thought he looked pretty composed and did not totally self destruct. The safety....inexperience, he was trying to make a play. We know he can be an accurate passer. I thought his biggest problem was accuracy in the TB game. If he works on that, I think he'll be fine. This is the same defence that made Cullpepper look pretty bad and JP had very little help. I think this good kick in the butt is probably good for the team in the long run. TB in my opinion is the real deal. I think Everett would have really helped us up the middle.
scribo Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 The thing that JP has most impressed me with so far is his ability to sense and avoid pressure. I think that with Drew or RJ, we would have had at least three more sacks yesterday and likely two fumbles. I strongly believe that is not a coachable skill.
Hardy Pyle Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Exactly, he was facing alot of pressure and I expected alot worst once I saw what was going. He needs to keep his mechanics in check and do a better job of looking off safeties, etc. But he has a skill that all the great ones have. Pocket Composure. It seemed like he was moving well in the pocket, getting the ball off, etc. He just needs to hit his targets. It was a tough game and that defense is going to make alot of QB's look bad. I think we'll bounce back. What scares me most about that game is our run defence. We were exposed.
Matt in KC Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 A question for those of you that were there: Was the wind gusting? The NFL gamebook says 4MPH wind, but many kicks sailed long, and I wondered if gusts might have been affecting JP's throws at times (not that he didn't make bad throws all on his own).

Certainly no gusts. JP was just inaccurate yesterday.
BuckeyeBill Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I think Everett would have really helped us up the middle. 446409 Do you think that Roscoe would have helped out too?
Hardy Pyle Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 I don't know. I look forward to seeing Roscoe, but Reed was there when his number was called.
BRH Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 i was there...not much of a breeze at all. Certainly no gusts. JP was just inaccurate yesterday. 446440 As was Moorman. It didn't seem to affect Lindell or Bryant on their FGs or kickoffs.
Terry Tate Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 How did his pocket composure compare to Pro Bowl, 7th year QB Daunte Culpepper playing at home? Pro Bowl 7th year QB Daunte Culpepper playing at home: Passing 22/33, 233yds, 0 TD's, 3 Int's, Rushing 3 times for 19yds, long of 10yds. JP first road start against same team: Passing 12/28, 113yds, 0 TD's, 0 Int's, Rushing 4 times for 13yds, long of 7yds. Could've been worse. Nearly matched DC's three interceptions. Not the last QB who's going to have a hard time against Tampa this year.
