SilverNRed Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Link Sept. 13, 3005 — Amid the chaos and confusion that engulfed New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck, a local congressman used National Guard troops to check on his property and rescue his personal belongings — even while New Orleans residents were trying to get rescued from rooftops, ABC News has learned. On Friday, Sept. 2 — five days after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast — Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., who represents New Orleans and is a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, was allowed through the military blockades set up around the city to reach the Superdome, where thousands of evacuees had been taken. Obviously Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., doesn't care about black people...... The water reached to the third step of Jefferson's house, a military source familiar with the incident told ABC News, and the vehicle pulled up onto Jefferson's front lawn so he wouldn't have to walk in the water. Jefferson went into the house alone, the source says, while the soldiers waited on the porch for about an hour. What the hell was he doing in there for an hour? Taking a crap? Watching porn? Posting on TSW? What?

UConn James Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Remind you of a story I related about Laura Bush and two shoeboxes? Perish the thought when politicians and their wives are used to getting their butts wiped, and expect it every time. Then again, maybe he had important legislative materials in there. Maybe he was drafting a bill. Who knows. But b/c he's got a D next to his name, now a story like this gets posted, on this board. Whatever.

Perish the thought when politicians and their wives are used to getting their butts wiped, and expect it every time. 439718 So when Laura Bush was getting her shoes, was she making troops wait while people were stranded on rooftops? If she wasn't, it's not even close to being as offensive. Then again, maybe he had important legislative materials in there. Maybe he was drafting a bill. Who knows. But b/c he's got a D next to his name, now a story like this gets posted, on this board. Whatever.Actually, the real reason it's funny is that the people with the D next to their names are the race baiters trying to sell the idea that the response would have been faster had it not been poor, black people stranded in NO. And, oh look, there's a black congressman abusing his power and using resources while people were stranded.

As for the timeframe, maybe he had some of the Retatta that BiB dropped off from the plane in his avatar...

EC-Bills Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I don't know...you can throw up just about anywhere. 439735 Yeah, but he may have been one of the unlucky ones who couldn't throw up and thus forced to have it go through.

From what I've seen, that covers 7 out of 10 Congress people. Outside of maybe 15% of them, they are the wannabe's, and think they are really something. Try having a drink with one. You'll want to puke inside of 20 minutes.
UConn James Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I think you're missing the fundamental point here, that, regardless of party affiliation, he's an ass hole. 439745 I didn't miss the point. He probably used needed resources to piddle around. And anything short of collecting his only copy of something similar in world-changing scope to the Marshall Plan, I'd say it was wrong. But am I surprised it happened? No (I'm not surprised by much anymore). And am I surprised that here, he's being lambasted while every ®, including Tom Delay, is given the complete benefit of the doubt? The most repeated argument that came out of those threads was "Hey, everyone else does it, so why can't he?" B/c that makes it OK.

What is this, kindergarten? A braying ass is a braying ass.

Go back and read the post, especially that whole, "[A]nything short of collecting his only copy of something similar in world-changing scope to the Marshall Plan, I'd say it was wrong" part. The rest was pointing out that a lot of posters here picked up a two-pack of standards at Costco.

Though even you have to admit that "This only gets posted because he's a democrat" is defensive in and of itself. This is why I HATE mindless partisan politics. Why worry about Democrats vs. Republicans, when fundamentally they're all sh-- heads?

Wacka Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I may have been closer than anyone in this thread. He is being investigated by the FBI for shady dealings with a high tech firm. There are suponeas for his office, and home. They want to see what he took out. He took out several suitcases, a laptop and a box the size of a small fridge (a safe?). LAST WEEK he started a defense fund for himself.
