Nanker Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Total Defense Total D is right up there where we all expected it to be. Turnovers Turnovers! I love turnovers. Especially on Sunday. And, for the offensive-minded amongst us... T.O.P. Well, well, well. Maybe it is all about the O afterall. Now I'm not getting all sweaty about it, but starting off this way makes it easier to end the season at the top too. I'm glad the D has challenged itself to greatness. It should be some show.
Spun Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I will enjoy the victory while I can as it was a great team performance but I can't forget the opening day win over the Pats a few years back and how that season degenerated... I think GW got so giddy that his team actually beat a divisional opponent that he figured the Division Title was his. I think MM will have a shorter Head Coaching learning curve than GW exhibited.

I do love that the bills dominated TOP and defensively. That's not the whole picture though... They dominated TOP on offense when they had to: the second half. You can read TOP in two different ways: 1, the offense ground out the clock (see super bowl XXV) or 2, the defense was so good that they kept giving the ball back tot he offense. I'm glad to say that the bills were a little bit of both. They played a far from perfect game. Losman had a couple bad throws. Reed dropped a ball. McGahee didn't get rolling till the 3rd quarter. McGee looks like he's still a little shaky at CB. But, the positives far outweigh the negatives here. Defense looks monsterous. JP CAN manage the game. JP wasn't jittery. Pass protection was great, run blocking was decent (crappy 1st half, good 2nd half), and for the love of god, give Lindell a game ball... No, he didn't knock in a 50 yarder in the snow, but he hit 5 mid range field goals. A much added confidence boost if the need to win a game comes down to his leg. As for the coaching itself?? Well, the bills won, so they did a good job. I wouldn't go with great. They still mismanaged the clock a little at the end of the game, and blew the time outs at the beginning which would have been nice to use as a challenge on that Carr "touchdown". Less penalties, good play calling on both sides of the ball. Confidence is the name of the game iwth this team. Better to have some going into tampa than not. I'm excited for this game. Last year, i was nervous about going into oakland... Cautious optimism

Corp000085 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 What? You're asking me to bring back Tim the Enchanter? 438231[/snapback] Is that the same as the Pixieland guy? Nah, MT is cool... He's an underapreciated offensive lineman who likes to make a quick buck.

That was the result of them just having cut Milloy. No such similar situation this time. And the Bills' season went South fast, once Travis got hurt, and then Moulds got hurt. Hopefully the Bills stay healthy.

losman Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 It has been a long while since the Bills have won there Home Opener. So yes 1 game does not make a season. But, this win gives a lot more to hope for.

But, this win gives a lot more to hope for. I think I heard that 11 of the 12 playoff teams from last year won in week 1. That of course means that 5 teams that won opening weekend did not make the playoffs, but I still like the better odds.
