Kelly the Dog Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 dog... these are not 'random thoughts'. These are deliberate, contrived and selected comments. Therefore, "fair and balanced" has become tainted.. 437966[/snapback] They are random because they are not in any particular order or category and I was making them up as I went along. Perhaps you should spend more time with a dictionary instead of just being a dick. I'm sure you can come up with ten random comments about why the Bills sucked, lucked out, didn't really play well despite appearances, and actually lost the game that they dominated from start to finish.
Matt in KC Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Great points, KtFBD! 5. The snaps on the FGs really could make a signficant difference. I am not sold on Lindell but little things like that do indeed make a difference in the kicking game. I agree; the snaps did look a lot smoother. 8. Edwards held up well. Was Edward held out at the end of the game because it was clear the Texans needed to pass to catch up? The base D-Line for the last 9-10 plays (over the last 3 Houston drives) was 92-95-90-94 (Denney, Adams, Kelsay, Schobel) Here are some other things I observed from the broadcast. (Just read the top dozen topics, sorry if covered elsewhere.) It was great to see the CBs come up to the line an jamb the receivers. They would sometimes start (the familiar) 5-6 yards off the line, then creep up as the D shifted. I never understood why we conceded the short pass so often in the past. On the long pass breakup on 3-17 on Houston's first drive of the 2nd half, McGee looked like he was a bit early (arm), but Vincent timed it perfectly. Now that's solid safety play! Two drives later, on the pass that Carr threw to the endzone, there were four players there: Clements, Milloy, Vincent, and (oh yeah) Andre Johnson. Is it really surprising the Bills ended up with the ball? Again, solid secondary. Does McGahee always wear a flack jacket (is that what they're called)? I noticed when he stayed hown for awhile that he was wearing one. I've also noticed that his stiffarm has been absent since early PS and on Sunday. Does he have soar ribs? One more question: Why did the officials reset the playclock to :10 after the McGahee (non-)TD review immediately before the Peters TD? Mularkey did not look happy about it on the sidelines, and they got the play off quickly, but was that just a ref screw up, or is there a weird rule about this? I thought that if time was called by a team, or for injury, or for the refs that you always got at least :25 on the play clock. No? (While I'm on my rant, why aren't the official NFL rules available online??) -Matt

Since they were expecting the Texans to pass virtually every play, that is why I suspect Denney was in there instead of Edwards. Denney is also getting pretty good and big enough to be fairly stout against the run. The pass into the endzone with three safeties, David Carr didn't expect Vincent to be there or get their either and it could easily have been a TD if he didn't. Carr made a comment after the game about how great a play and read that was by Vincent, who hadn't shown that on film they watched. It was just a smart veteran play by Vincent who read the formation and play as it was developing. I think McGahee has been wearing that flak jacket since he hurt his ribs last year but I'm not sure. The reason he didn't use the straight arm is that he didnt run many sweeps and the opportunity just didn't ome up. I'm sure we'll see it soon. My observation of the MM being mad on the goal line was that he knew the play clock was going to be at ten and was really yelling at Losman to get ready to get to the line and get the play off because he had 10 seconds and not 25. I can't recall what happened on that play to make it only 10 seconds.
