finknottle Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I'll Google...but honestly have never heard of it. Good? 440730 British detective drama. They usually are either contempory or 20's-30's period series. This one takes place in England while WWII rages. The man character is a police detective who serves on the homefront instead of joining up. The stories take place against an interesting backdrop of war, spies, smuggling, profiteering, etc. I didn't expect to find the setting compelling, but I did.

Good? 440730 I'll add to finknottle's comments: Each episode is an independent story i.e. it's not a continuing "saga". A few points: his sergeant-assistant was wounded in combat and has a wooden leg. His driver had worked in a motor pool, but has developed into a bit of an amateur sleuth. Foyle is widowed, and his son is a Spitfire pilot. The link below is dated... http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/foyleswar/
