offensive gameplan this week

i've been reading a lot of the "we need to run, run, run" posts and articles over the last couple of days, and i gotta say i disagree. i fear that this is exactly what opponents expect.

 

we're putting a 1st-year starting QB out there. defenses are going to blitz. what are the two worst things to do? long-developing pass plays, and traditional running plays into blitzing LBs.

 

if the bills believe that losman is smart and has been well-coached, then the thing to do is to throw early and often. 3-4 WR sets. single back. 3 step drops. quick slants and outs. rollouts. a couple of screens. then give the ball to mcgahee on counters and draws. by the 3rd and 4th quarters, begin the "traditional" runs up the middle.

 

i still think mcgahee will get 25 touches; i just don't believe the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" mentality is the way to go. i guess we'll see come sunday.

Brother, I am with ya. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think we need to go no huddle. Not hurry up, but no huddle. Get a D grouping JP feels comfortable agaisn't , and let it fly.

I see 30 touches for McGahee and a good number of screens and rollouts to beat the blitz. Pretty close to what you're thinking. I'd definitely like to see a few TE and RB passing plays work out, it seems we underutilized that aspect of the game last year.

This makes some sense to me, too--or at least not going into a run-on-every-down shell. That's a prescription for eight in the box, third-and-eights, and three-and-outs. Losman and the offense have to be able to keep them honest.
