WillisMcThrillis Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Im not one of those guys who just goes on the board and suggests we go after every free agent in the league, but what do people think of going after hugh douglas as specifically a third down pass rusher? The Bills only have three rostered DEs, and Kelsay is primarilly in there for rushing help. There is a connection with Troy Vincent on the team, and it wouldnt cost much money. Thoughts?
VABills Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I think what people seem to misunderstand is that when both Edwards and Anderson were drafted they were both projected to play DT and DE. SO in reality we have 5 guys available for DE. Not 3. Anderson was projected to be a DE if drafted into a 3-4 set before you go looking too much.
flomoe Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I have to agree with VA on this. Edwards would probably be a rotating DE at some point during the games. Not to say that I don't like the idea of HD in a Bills uniform to be a pass rush specialist but I just don't think he quite fits that role anymore. Maybe at one point in his career he did but he looks to be past his prime for that. Also, given the Bills low numbers on the Dline, they might be able to keep everyone one of them active for the games and possibly use someone like Bannan or even Sape at DE towards the end of the game when they are fresh. Just my opinion on not using a roster spot on a specialist like Douglas.
nick in* england Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I think Hugh Douglas is past it - and that our DL right now has all the depth it needs with Ritzmann on the PS in case of injuries. Our DL has loads of upside. Shobel is a given, Kelsay keeps improving, Denney is a good backup, Adams is All-Pro, Anderson shows improvement and effort, Edwards has starting experience and can rush the passer, Sape is the Sapemeister, and Bannan is mr versatile.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 And don't forget Posey. He's probably the first guy to play DE after Schobel/Kelsay/Denney. Plus, I'd rather promote Ritzmann from the PS than sign Hugh Douglas.

But yeah he too can play down and has for us last year.
CoachChuckDickerson Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Hugh Douglas's production over the past 2 seasons is all you need to know about Hugh Douglas at this point.
