eball Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 OK, but Haddad couldn't even beat out George Wilson (an undrafted free agent) for a roster spot. So even if your theory is 100% correct about TD favoring his draft picks (though I thought the coaches were the ones who make the cut decisions), we at least know that Haddad wasn't THAT big of a loss if he couldn't even beat out Wilson. And especially if - as of today - not 1 of the other 31 NFL teams have decided to take a chance on the "can't miss" WR prospect that is Drew Haddad. 430941 bingo. i love how every fan favorite who is cut but wasn't a TD draft pick immediately becomes "proof positive" that TD can't admit a mistake and keeps his draft picks even if they hurt the team.
MDH Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 And especially if - as of today - not 1 of the other 31 NFL teams have decided to take a chance on the "can't miss" WR prospect that is Drew Haddad. 430941 Yep, and I'd lay money that if we released Josh Reed he'd be picked up very quickly. Yet, people on this board somehow think Haddad is better than Reed. People love rooting for the underdog.

The guy dropped a pass in EVERY PRE-SEASON GAME!!!!
CoachChuckDickerson Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The 7th WR on the depth craft is an issue because....? If we have to count on George Wilson or Drew Haddad to take the field and make some plays, chances are our season will be over anyway.

Typical TBD Guy Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Why do teams keep so many receivers anyhow? 431105 5 WR is the norm. In your standard pro set, you have the 2 starters and the 2 backups, plus 1 extra who is usually some sort of kick/punt return specialist. NFL teams that keep 6-7 WR's usually fall under these categories: A. Pass-happy teams that sub out their FB's and TE's a lot for 3-WR and 4-WR formations (not applicable to the Bills, unless Mularkey and Co. plan to surprise us all by letting Losman loose). B. Teams with injuries to WR's who haven't been placed on IR or PUP lists (like the Bills with Parrish). C. Teams whose kick/punt returners and other special teamers happen to mostly be WR's (maybe like the Bills if Clements and McGee are to be gradually relieved from their return duties). D. Teams who couldn't make their mind up on cutting certain players or risk losing certain guys if placing them on the practice squad (could be the case with Wilson...but I have no idea).
cåblelady Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I guess we don't need a WR who can catch the ball. Well we still have Josh and Coy. I thought they were history. 430542 I'm with you, Cindy.
todd Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Proof positive that TD keeps his draft picks over players who might be better. 430543 Yeah, that sure is proof positive!
todd Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I'm with you, Cindy. 431285 You, you all just liked his butt!
BRH Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Reed's career can be sumed up in one play. The flea flicker his rookie year that he turned around and was standing there. No one was within 20 yards of him. It hit him in the chest and fell to the ground. He sucks!!!!! 430635 It was his sophomore year. No shocker there, who was that crap o-lineman he drafted in the 1st round in Pittsburgh that he brought to Buffalo to try and prove everyone he made the right choice. That dude didn't even make the team. That was Kris Farris, and injuries were his problem in Pittsburgh. TD brought him here to see if he might finally be healthy. He wasn't, and he was cut. How is that not admitting his mistakes?
shibuya Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Proof positive that TD keeps his draft picks over players who might be better. 430543 pure paranoid idiocy spewed yet again by pretenders
EC-Bills Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 According to Clayton's Insider Blog at ESPN.com... 7. The reason the Bills kept Josh Reed as a fourth receiver over Drew Haddad is because they didn't want to gamble with inexperience during Roscoe Parrish's recovery from wrist surgery. Parrish is going to miss at least the first month of the season, but he has all the looks of being a great third receiver. The Eric Moulds-Lee Evans-Parrish trio was one of the scariest of the preseason. But Haddad lacks game experience. Reed has it. So Haddad had to go, and Reed was going to stay.

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Prrof positve that in your opinion only Haddad might be better. I think the Bills should have kept Haddad, but not over Reed. I think they should have cut either Fast Freddy or Aiken. Reed Is a very good blocker too. Proof positive that TD keeps his draft picks over players who might be better. 430543

Shame for Farris but you only get so many chances. Same thing applies to Haddad. Either find a job in AFL / CFL or hope for an injury and to be picked up.
