philburger1 Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 ""A single sniper or two snipers shouldn't have to shut down a hospital evacuation for two hours now," Dr. Ruth Berggren told CNN. "I look outside, I'm not seeing any military." Huh? we are supposed to expect snipers to fire at hospitals now? It's the military's fault?

Considering it's a law enforcement issue, and the military's constitutionally forbidden from enforcing domestic law... Just proof that just because someone's smart, it doesn't mean they can't be stupid.

UConn James Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 A lot of the police turned in their badges and quit. 426505 It's not a bad job when you're dealing with conventional stuff and waving at the pretty girls but when the going gets tough.... My brother's a cop up here. If he did that, I wouldn't ever speak to him again. It has to do with those big words like oaths, duty and honor that are sometimes the only things that keep you going when the sh-- hits the fan.
pope zimli Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 there are exceptions to posse comitatus and precedent for using the army in critical situations. The Supreme Court has recognized that. Boots on the ground on Tuesday morning would have been appropriate. There is no reason this thing has not been under control. On the one hand, I would assume the govt doesn't give a darn...on the other I'm wondering if this is actual malfeasance.

Your family is gone, everything you own is gone. There is no communication from your superiors and you are outnumbered 100 to 1 by armed looters and hoodlums. Yeah these guys are real cowards.

People who know far more about the subject than you are hindered by posse comitatus...maybe you should go and give them your expert legal advice. Sounds like you'd be a big help.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 A lot of the police turned in their badges and quit. 426505 Wasn't seeing much before that, either. The mayor took them of enforcing order and put them on rescue work early. In hindsight, that was almost certainly a mistake, and killed more people long-term than it saved short-term.

And the doctor sounds like she expects it for some reason. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I would really be more pissed at the jackasses shooting at my staff and patients, than sit there and curse the army for not stopping them.

There are also pretty liberal interpretations of what is law enforcement, and what isn't. I would personally prefer not to see title 10 forces mixed up in anything that involves shooting people. The news networks are doing enough damage as it is.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 But why in the world would someone snipe at a hospital? And the doctor sounds like she expects it for some reason. Stupidity? Seriously, why do most people do the dumbass things they do? Some idiot saw that there's no authority, got himself a rifle, and decided to have a little fun. Doesn't take much more than that. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I would really be more pissed at the jackasses shooting at my staff and patients, than sit there and curse the army for not stopping them. 426568 I agree with you...but if we'd been stuck for three days with no food, water, air, or lights hand-pumping ventilators for critical care patients, we might be less upset about idiots with guns than we would the lack of help...

Had to hire armed guards to escort people to and from their cars...and no one was allowed outside for a smoke because people would take potshots at them. Everyone laments the fact that the "cultural" New Orleans is gone, when in fact the majority of the city was seriously crime ridden and filthy a long time ago.
Wacka Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I did research at Roswell from 85-92. For a year or so, the parking ramp was closed because of salt damage. After dark, you had to go to the lobby and wait for security to drive you to satellite lots they had leased from a church and Trico. The security guard who drove us was packing heat.
