Talonz Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Is it possible for you to post without a GB reference? This is about the third I've seen this morning. Look, if you've got some homoerotic, conservative or religious hard on for the guy please keep it to yourself. Not everyone believes he's the messiah. Now on to the news at hand! If martial law hasn't been declared in NO then wtf are they waiting for?? If you're enough of a dirtbag to loot in during a tragedy of this magnitude then a 5.56 in the head is about all the justice you deserve. 422796 Nice...
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Don't worry, the "finest engineering outfit in the world" (USACE) is on the job... They will have things figured out. It is just a matter of seconds before they whip out the NO-Category 5 study... Oh wait, that plan was 86'd when the 70% slash in Corps budget became a reality. If the Corps maintains things down there the way they maintain up here... NO is in deep-do-do, literally. ""I've been here over 30 years and I've never seen this level of reduction, said Al Naomi, project manager for the New Orleans district. I think part of the problem is it's not so much the reduction, it's the drastic reduction in one fiscal year. It's the immediacy of the reduction that I think is the hardest thing to adapt to. There is an economic ripple effect, too. The cuts mean major hurricane and flood protection projects will not be awarded to local engineering firms. Also, a study to determine ways to protect the region from a Category 5 hurricane has been shelved for now."" I sure hope the pumps were painted! Essayons!
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Cute name calling. But anyway, you accused Fox of "jumping the gun" on a story which they simply just scooped everyone else on, just like "Florida goes to Bush in 2000" or "Ohio goes to Bush in 2004." I can only assume that those "scoops" drive libs crazy. Fox News is #1 for a reason, and making crap up isn't one of them. But anyway again, this isn't the right thread to be talking about that. 422819 Hating FoxSnooze for what it is - nonsense - does not make one a liberal. Not recognizing it for crap does make one looney, however.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 During martial law... Why don't they open all the perishable good to the public? They are going to spoil anyway? Why not hand them out in an orderly way? Now the guy with the computer or TV on his back in knee deep water with the city 100% out of power... They can be shot!

What, they think an electrical appliance that's been submerged in water for more than a day is going to work?

Fake-Fat Sunny Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Look, don't single-source for news or you run a pretty reasonable risk of getting information incorrectly. Both Fox and CNN have a dumb business approach of trying to be first with the "news" when accuracy would be the thing many want. Use your remote, cruise around and if you really care get involved and see for yourself. If one depends totally or even mostly on one media outlet or perspective you will have an inaccurate view of the world whether you watch Fox or CNN.

Fan in San Diego Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Does this mean the levee broke as well ?
BRH Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Until it stops, I will continue to rub in the fact that Republicans WON and Democrats LOST. 422803 You got that wrong. Everybody lost.
RuntheDamnBall Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 You got that wrong. Everybody lost. 422860 I got yr Post of the Year nomination right here.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Looting is far more efficient - zero overhead. 422840 (tempered by the sobbering fact that engulfs the city of NO) It also makes for interesting TV footage (also tempered by the sobbering suffering that surrounds those poor citizens). As an USACE employee... I really hope we can get our act together.

ExiledInIllinois Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Does this mean the levee broke as well ? 422849 If some of it goes it goes pretty fast. Don't forget, the area within the protected area is saturated or filled with water... Making it difficult to spot boils or other trouble spots. I want to know why the pumps failed? What was the situation there?
N.Y. Orangeman Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 [silent post for the death of reason and civility]
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 As an USACE employee... I really hope we can get our act together. 422875 And do what? Seriously, how do you even begin to address an engineering problem of this magnitude? The mind boggles at the immensity of the task...
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 et faisons Man, I go to lunch and look what goes on around here in the meantime. 422878 Hey... You can try, I can try... GOD HOPE SOMEBODY TRIES!!!! I really don't want to spread ill will, even dish the crap about my employer... Yet, I can point out a lot of problems even with our local site that goes overlooked. They just sank well over 300k in security upgrades to a place that nobody knows is there (my field site) yet, the old rubber insulated 480 high voltage wiring (circa 1959) running through the place is well saturated with water. One thing is... It will get noticed when something blows. I really hope that NO district has its act together... And wasn't all consumed with the contracting/budgetary bug that has been going around civil works the last few years to let maintenance slide. We are becoming a nation of "project engineers." A known fact is that during the Upper Mississippi flood of 1993 (Geat Flood of '93) NOT ONE FEDARLLY maintained levee failed.

That sh--'s completely impenetrable.

If this shist is going down and multiple failure is occurring????... What do you do? Except get everybody out
