Looks like the Bills really lucked out in this deal.

I can see the Eagles over-paying for him.

Although if the price were right, I'd welcome him back.

UPDATE 8/30

Falcons cut Price

Wide receiver was entering third year of $37.5M deal

The Falcons and Peerless Price are through.

The team cut Price Tuesday on a day when NFL rosters had to be trimmed to 65. The wide receiver, who never lived up to expectations, was entering the third year of a $37.5 million contract with the team. Price lost his starting job at the start of training camp. He suffered a concussion two weeks ago in an exhibition loss to Tennessee and just returned to practice Monday.

In two years with the Falcons, he had 109 catches for 1,413 yards and six touchdowns.

He dug his own grave in that deal. He thought he was a number 1 caliber receiver and wanted to be paid like one. In retrospect he could have stayed here in Buffalo for less money and been part of a great offense, potntially. But hey screw him, WE GOT LEE EVANS NOW!!!

Just remember what made the Price trade doable-Getting Drew Bledsoe.  AVP or some other bum throwing to him would have made Price an unrestricted free agent who would have walked, with nothing in return.  Also remember something else-Price only plays well with certain QBs.  He hated RJ, couldn't get RJs passes, yet for Flutie & Bledsoe he could play at a high level.  Looks like he & Vick are a bad fit.

So basically the Drew trade didn't cost us anything on our roster, it did however strengthen NE.

That makes no sense at all! The drew trade didnt cost us anything? I think it cost us 3 years of thinking we had a great Qb when we really had the wool pulled over our eyes by a guy(Drew) who couldnt get the job done and a team(NE) who knew he was wahsed up but passed him off as a top level QB worthy of a 1st round pick.

Flowery Branch -- For the Falcons, the Price was wrong.

After months of speculation, the team released wide receiver Peerless Price Tuesday morning, parting with a once highly productive player who failed to live up to lofty expectations and a $37 million contract ($10 million signing bonus) after being acquired from the Buffalo Bills for a first-round draft pick in 2003.

Price was told before practice and sped out of the parking lot at team headquarters in his BMW just as the team was beginning to stretch for the day's drills.

"I hate y'all," Price said to an AJC photographer, before hustling into his car without further comment.

The waiving of Price enables him to catch on with another team before the start of the season. The Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles, the Falcons' season-opening opponent, are thin at wide receiver and could be first in line to give Price a chance.

As for the Falcons, the biggest question looming has been answered. Now, the team has to find a fifth receiver, which could come either through picking up a veteran who has been released by another team - the Cincinnati Bengals waived former first-round pick Peter Warrick Tuesday - or by signing a player already in camp.

Rookie free agents Cole Magner, Romby Bryant and arena leaguer Will Pettis have impressed the coaching staff. The Falcons will save $2 million in salary this season by cutting Price but they will take a $5.7 million hit against the cap next year because his salary-cap figure accelerates. The financial stake with such a move was a key reason the team did not release him earlier this year.

However, the signs of his possible departure have been in the works for months. Following 64 and 45 catch seasons and with the coaching staff expressing concerns with his blocking in the run game, the Falcons selected wide receivers Michael Jenkins and Roddy White in the first round of the past two drafts.

This summer, they publicly declared Price's starting job open for competition then challenged him over offseason drills. They also kept an eye on his behavior, from how he addressed teammates and coaches to how he handled the often-critical media.

Price passed on all counts but was still demoted behind Jenkins when training camp opened. Price never openly complained and was praised for his hard work in practice. In the end, though, he was not deemed a right fit.

Nobody thought for 3 years that we had a great QB. 1st half of 1st season, Drew played great; 2nd half he sucked. 2nd year he was bad enough that we traded up to get JP, hardly a ringing endorsement & proof nobody was thinking of Drew as great. 3rd year, Drew-already on double-secret probation, gets lucky when JP breaks his leg enabling Drew to have no competition through the season-yet soon after he is jettisoned.

Problem is 1st year there was nobody else to acquire. Carr & Harrington were already gone by pick 4 & Ramsey would have been a reach to trade up for & was gone by the 2nd round. The truth is no matter how badly Bledsoe played, he has outperformed every QB from the class of 2002. Plus you're forgetting one other factor. TD felt he owed it to Gregg Williams to give him a fair shot at keeping his job. With only AVP at QB, the Bills would have had a season similar to 2001. In addition to not giving Gregg a fair shot, and firing him 1 year early (not necessarily bad) you can forget about Spikes, Adams & Milloy ever joining the team after the 2002 season.

So now after Drew's Pro Bowl season of 2002 (even though he sucked in the 2nd half) we move on to the 2003 draft. Palmer & Leftwich are gone by the time we pick. So we could have drafted Kyle Boller if we hadn't traded for Bledsoe. Now say we had not traded for Drew & have had one of the top picks. So we pick either Palmer or Leftwich, but we don't have McGahee because Price's #s would have drawn no interest as the franchise player. Once again no QB in the 2003 draft from the time we (would have) picked, on down has done anything of note.

Now we move to the 2004 draft. By now there are numerous questions about Drew's future. We draft JP Losman, which for all intents & purposes, makes Drew a lame duck QB-whether he wanted to admit it or not. The only mistake was the ridiculous renegotiation of Drew's contract. The smart move would have been to cut Drew before 2004, but once again -TD felt he owed his head coach a legitimate chance to see what he could do.

Drew is not a bad QB. He's mediocre & has occasional good games. There were no other alternatives until the 2004 draft. Drew was the best we could do at the time of the trade & subsequent 3 seasons he was here.

That's a damn good explanation and post. I agree. Drew may have sucked sometimes, but if we didnt make that trade, we would not have Spikes and Adams and Milloy and Vincent.

I suppose that is true, though hard to accept. Bledsoe's name value must have given the Bills the cred to sign top shelf free agents. Certainly got Moulds to stop talking about a trade or retirement.
