VABills Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I had the same retort, when I asked if any rookie OL picked AFTER Parrish was/were going to start for any NFL team this year. Your point was that the Bills should have drafted an OL who could start (at LG) this year. I don't think any OL who were picked after Parrish ARE going to start this year, and Parrish should make a much greater impact than a rookie OL picked after him. 421243 These guys are starters for their teams Snyder for San Fran at RG - 3rd round Pettiti for Dallas at RT - 6th round Terrell for STl at LG - 4th round Also picked before Parrish but in the 2nd round Roos for Tenny at RT Johnson for Minn at RG

VABills Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 The pats even took an OG in round 1, no? 421251 Actually these are the only projected starting rookies in the NFL right now. 1st rounders Brown (NO), Barron (STL), Spencer (SEA), and Mankins (NE), have not cracked the starting lineup yet. And Mankins was a G, and Spencer a Center.

And that's 3 players out of 41 picked after Parrish, with the next starter (Synder) picked 40 spots later. Not to mention Duke Preston could probably start at LG if the Bills wanted to go that route.

I also think that the Willis kid from FSU could have been good. Parrish better put up some impressive #'s and "open" up our offense significantly for him to have been worth it this year. If only Miami had a LG that was graduating, I am sure that TD would have gotten him
Dante Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 If you are happy with this decade long mess up front, so be it. I think that it sucks to have a weak group of blockers in a tough, blue collar football town. Do you favor finesse type team? I do not, and think that the only thing that the Bills lack in terms of being a championship team is a tough, mean group of "Hogs." Sadly, there is no end in sight, but I will never give up! GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 421237 The lack of size on both sides of the line seems to be the Bills curse. Even in the Super Bowl years our line was,nt big enough to beat the larger lines of the NFC. Whats frustrating is that the Bills simply do not learn from previous failures.
Chilly Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Good retort, but perhaps you can see my point. Were any OTs taken after we chose the midget in round 2? Don't ya see.....two years in a row, we chose a wr with our first selection. Our second selections were a qb and a TE, in addition to trading away a 2nd and a 5th in 04. I saw a recent interview with Bill Parcells in which he stated that if he has a list of 50 receivers at draft time, his list of guards will probably be at 25. Many of you are ready to proclaim that Parcells is now dumb because he signed Bledsoe, but he is a legendary football guy and these were his words. Imo, the bottom line is that both Mr. Butler and TD did a lousy job of bringing vital blockers to our beloved football team; a team that plays in the cold, rain and snow (sounds like a Grateful Dead Song ). If you are happy with this decade long mess up front, so be it. I think that it sucks to have a weak group of blockers in a tough, blue collar football town. Do you favor finesse type team? I had the same retort, when I asked if any rookie OL picked AFTER Parrish was/were going to start for any NFL team this year. Of course the other two guys are starting on some above average teams (Dallas and St Louis). What's your excuse there why they should not count. In addition, the Bills Oline sucks. The fact that you discount SF is ignorant at best because we win not because of our Oline but because of defense and ST's. Our oline maybe worse then SF and the fact that they have a rookie starting should show you that we are not evaling oline properly for the draft.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Why don't you people do ALL of us a favor and eat a bullet? You'll likely be happier. JEEZUZ FUGGING CHRISTMAS! The regular season hasn't even started yet! How do you know what we TRULY have until you see it in ACTUAL game conditons? Answer? you don't. So until then, quit kvetching.

VABills Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I could say the same to you knuckleheads. 421476 What? All I did was correct someone with facts regarding starting rookie olinemen? I also feel that our oline has looked poor to this point. Did I in anyway say how they will look come regular season? However, you would like to see a glimpse of competance on occassion in preseason.
Beerball Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I respected JMac until he put LS at LG to start last season. Kudos for him for having 86ed Pucillo, and kudos again to yanking LS. But he really needs to get some stones and admit to TD that he, in fact, can't make bricks without clay. They're asking him to do too much with too little, thinking it can be done via technique rather than having the physical tools and mentality to grade the road. 420828 Do you assume that JM walks into TDs office and says "Give me some sh-- TD and I'll deliver you a SB."? Do you think he was lobbying for the Bills to pick up other teams castoffs so that he could prove that he's the man when it comes to O-line coaching? They got issues, no friggin question about it, but let's not assume that JM likes what he's been given.

Like I said, 3 out of 41 OL picked who are starting, whether because they're good enough to start or because their teams have no other choice, is NOT a great batting percentage. None would have been selected at Parrish's pick by anyone, much less the Bills, and Preston could probably start and do as well if given the chance.
