No offense VA, but have you EVER lived in the district? Number one, no such thing as closed neighborhoods. I lived in 5 differant houses in 5 differant neighborhoods. Lived, played, and worked(sales call) in the district for 14 yrs, never had one iota of trouble with crime. Schools can be dicey, but there are quality public schools that are doing great things in the district, but I agree you need to look.

Nope. Friends do, in Georgetown. They actually have votes on who is allowed to buy houses there, at monthly meetings.

Okay, we are goin in a differant direction here, but that is absolutely not true unless they live in a CO-OP, and those are few and far between in DC. You do not really believe that do you?

He doesn't live in a co-op. In fact until Ron Brown died, Brown was his neighbor. And there is so much in the Burbs, and a lot better schools and safer I would never ever recommend someone live in DC. Ever.

Of note, 81 schools in DC have failed so badly they kids are eligible to transfer elsewhere. Yes there are charter schools in DC with a good rep, but it is pretty competative to get into them.

Some other stories from downtown:

OMG, you mean a crime happened in DC? Empty the place out.and everybody get in their bunkers.

Cmon VA, All I'm saying is that the District is a viable alternative to the Burbs. One can live in a burb anywhere, and they are all the SAME now. No identity or uniquness at all. Matter of preferance, but it is an alternative

OK, I'll play....

If he's working in Alexandria, I don't know if it's a great plan to have to cross the river twice a day. Takes away all the back road options.

And the additional taxes - DC is much more expensive especially if you consider the parking tax (parking tickets for non-parking violations).
