Chilly Posted August 9, 2005 Share Posted August 9, 2005 I play WoW, and its kinda funny. All of the Chinese Gold Farmers are easy to pick out, because they absolutely suck at the game. That article does have some inaccuracies though. How does it work? The macros for World of WarCraft, for example, control a high-level hunter and cleric. The hunter kills while the cleric automatically heals. Once they are fully loaded with gold and items, the "farmer" who's monitoring their progress manually controls them out of the dungeon to go sell their goods. These automated agents are then returned to the dungeons to do their thing again. Sack's typical 12-hour sessions can earn his employers as much as $60,000 per month while he walks away with a measly $150. In WoW, there is no such thing as a Cleric. I don't know where in the world they are getting that from. Most of the real players hate the gold farming, and while there are people that buy it, most of the people who enjoy the game don't buy their gold or characters. Its easy to spot who has: They don't know how to play the game properly usually. The hardcore players leave these people out of the fun stuff in the game (the top guilds and raids). There are also leveling services out there, where you give them your account and password, and they level your character as fast as they can until he reaches level 60. This service can actually be useful if you need a 60 on a server of a different class or something like that, but if you haven't played that class before you'll suck at it for a long time.
