I'm in a spot.

I moved to a new job internally 6 months ago on a temporary basis. The woman who brought me in did me a huge favour by doing so and saved me from taking a temporary drop in pay and a period of 'gardening leave'.

Problem is I am now bored of what I do here and want to move on. She's been off sick for a couple of weeks and in that time I have had 2 interviews for other jobs internally - without her knowing.

Problem is if my interviews don;t pan out I want to stay here cos it is cushy. So what do I tell her? She thinks she has got me until the new year and I want out before then...

Tell her. Explain that you know that your current job will not last past the end of the year, and you really would like to get something more permanent before then. You really appreciate all that she has done, and hope that she understands to position you are in and will support you in your search...

Sooner or later one of the people you have interviewed with will mention it to her in passing. Get it out in the open as soon as possible.

(she's been off sick for a couple weeks? is her name Ron Mexico?)

I don't get it. You have had two interviews while she was gone which she doesn't know about. If they don't pan out you want to stay in your current position. What exactly is the question or issue? Are you concerned she'll find out about the interviews?

Hi Nick you confused me too with some of your wording.

You said you "moved to a job internally on a temporary basis". By temporary do you mean YOU thought it was temporary or that you and the woman who brought you in agreed it was temporary?

If the latter, then I don't understand the problem - the job was temporary and you are merely preparing yourself for the change to a more permanent position. Gratitude only goes so far when a person's livelihood (and family?) is at stake. This scenario SUGGESTS there was some "grayness" in your agreeing to take this position. Can you be more specific?

If the former, then you are saying you always felt the move was temporary but did not make this clear to the woman who brought you on board. THAT is another matter and there is no clean way to smooth this out. It would mean you misled her from the get-go.

I am not judging you if it is the latter but I AM telling you that that ship has already sailed if that is the case.

get it? 0:)

Let me get this right. You have a cush job, but you're bored, so you're looking for another job that isn't cush but you don't want to get caught because you don't want to lose the cush job that is boring you.

Got it. Good luck.
