jester43 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 these people are right. if you really lost that much weight, you are SEVERLY dehydrated. even healthy, you could only metabolize enough energy to lose 5 lbs or so since sunday, so the rest must be water. drink some gatorade and go to the hospital!!
Gavin in Va Beach Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Sounds like something similar I had last year (and still have to some degree), called sarcoidosis. But I didn't have much problems swallowing/eating, I just didn't have an appetite. Hang in there and get well...
Pete Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Sounds pretty bad...if you've lost that much weight and can't eat or drink, get yourself over to the hospital for some IV's. You need nourishment, especially if you're trying to fight something off. 388034 Listen to the Doctor! Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers
The Tomcat Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 it still hurt to swallow. Any suggestions? 387825 Oh wait, your not a chick... seriously....get better......gargle with warm salt water....
#89 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 The more I read the less I like it. After what my sister's have been through get your A$$ to the DR. The sister who got an infection from gardening without gloves was sick for 6 weeks. The infection went into her blood then into her bones. She had to go for an IV antibotic for 14 days. Thank GOD she is better but even putting on clothes wore her out. She would have to rest after dressing. Could not wash her hair it was too painful. Why stay home and wait around until you are too weak to walk and pass out. GO TO THE DR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have taken your advice on fluids as I have forced myself to drink and eat today. I still feel really light headed and my hands are shaky, but there is nothing else I can do. The doctor told me that he thought it was just strep, but couldn't understand why I lost weight that fast. I have been to the hospital today already, I went around 10:00 this morning. I'm not the type to sit at the hospital unless my arm falls off. I'm really not being a tough guy this time though, I'll admit I was in tears last night trying to eat pudding. My girlfriend is a saint. She called her parents then my parents then all of our friends to get home remedies. Spent an hour and 100 bucks at Wegmans getting all of them and bringing them to me. That meant alot to me. I can't understand why I'm cold but sweating. Any one know what that's all about? Thanks for the prayers, I'm really hoping it's just strep.
eball Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Get well soon man! I was sick like that once before, you need to drink lots and lots of Gatorade and slowly move on to foods that can stay down, even just a loaf of bread. 387963 good god man! the guy can't swallow and you want him to eat a loaf of bread??? T_R, i have to admit i've been reading this thread looking for a punchline, but you sound sincere. hopefully somebody can figure out what's wrong. good luck.
Bill from NYC Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Hang tough, OK? You will get well soon and the Bills will kick ass.
#89 Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 The cold sweats are because you have and infection. I can't believe that there were no meds from the DR or hospital. If you can sip hot tea with Honey the honey is a natural healer.

What is the medication? Tell the doctor about the weight loss and sweats. Don't wait for the weekend to pass. Call now.

Cold with sweating is called "shaking chills". It's not uncommon with significant infections. But it does mean someone should figure out exactly what you have and treat it. Lots of doctors think things are "just strep", often times because they don't want to do a lot of testing and/or think any more about it than they have to. Plus, "just strep" can cause a lot more serious infections than strep throat, and this sounds a lot worse than just strep throat. My advice is to get yourself to an ER, urgent care, or the like, even just for a bag of IV fluid.

I do get tested for HIV and STD's every 3 months in case anyone was thinking the worst. I was last examined 3 weeks ago and have not changed partners or found new ones. He gave me amoxocylin (sp?) and a pain killer that supposed to make me feel ok, propoxy. They know about the weight loss and he said that was probabily because I wasn't eating. My appetite is there, I just refuse to eat due to the amount of pain it causes. I've actually went as far as to carry a paper cup around to spit in rather than swallow my own saliva. I haven't had a bong hit in like 5 days. T_R
theesir Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I do get tested for HIV and STD's every 3 months 388309 What the hell are you doing when you're not sick??? Are you a porn star??
Gavin in Va Beach Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I haven't had a bong hit in like 5 days. T_R 388309 Duuuuuude, you must be really sick! Get to an emergency room now!
The_Real Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 seriously....gargle with warm salt water..... 388325 I've been doing this every 15 minutes.
The_Real Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 What the hell are you doing when you're not sick??? Are you a porn star?? 388313 I used to be very sexually active as I was a musician. I was always careful with protection, but I'm a worry wart. You read stories about wrestlers getting Herpes from their wrestling mats and it makes you nervous.
TDRupp Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Everyone has an opinion and mine would be to a very active partipant in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition. Hammer them with Q's and ask what else it might be or what is the next step if I don't feel better in 1 day or in 2 days. Search www.wedMD.com for info if you thunk it is not strep throat. With strep, you usually start feeling better in 24 hrs from what I know (I am not a doctor though). Good luck. Peace. My friend, you have my prayers.
Assquatch Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I've actually went as far as to carry a paper cup around to spit in rather than swallow my own saliva. T_R 388309 That should help with the dehydration.
