Terry Tate Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I've worked for and met a lot of colonels in the last 25 years, and I can't remember a single one who reached that rank at 30 years old. I don't know the history of the officers I knew who were already generals, but I doubt any of them were colonel at 30 - that's just amazing. What a career. RIP General W., and thank you for your service.
erynthered Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 A couple of quotes from Westmoreland Television is an instrument which can paralyze this country. Without censorship, things can get terribly confused in the public mind. War is fear cloaked in courage. Thank you for your service, RIP......
Typical TBD Guy Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Pardon my ignorance, but what is the general consensus of his legacy? Brilliant military leader who was hampered by politicians trying to win a war from Washington? Or delusional war monger who never could have defeated the Viet Cong even with a million more US soldiers? Maybe not an appropriate question on his day of death, but I'm curious anyway...
Reuben Gant Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Don't have a postive opinion of him. But I never did. Still I am sad to see him go in some way. Mixed emotions.
