envirojeff Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 We all know that Travis, in the beginning, was a pleasant surprise, exciting to watch and inspired us on how he played injured (with no competition). He brought back memories of Thurman to me and what an up side!! Then, all of a sudden, out of the blue there was a report of him complaining about the WM pick? Willis was still (for the most part) injured. He was threatened by an injured player?? Once WM was healthy enough to start practice, the complaints started again all the way to the threat of holding out this coming season. Bottom line: Does not play well with others! Competition creates problems with Travis. So who's the real winner here? Buffalo - For getting rid of a cancer? or loser for not keeping him as a back-up Jacksonville - For NOT getting him? or loser for not making a big enough play for him? Tennessee - For getting him? or loser for adding a problem to there roster? In my opinion it's two fold. Buffalo wins for both dumping a cry baby and picking up a first day pick. Jax for not getting him and allow there division rival to pick up a possible distraction at least. Goodbye Travis, thanks for the productive years and f**k you for the spoiled brat tude that tainted those memories. Jeff
nick in* england Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I think the Bills AND the Titans have to be the Winners here. The Jags don't even figure. Look at it this way. Jax are a good team that could threaten for the AFC Championship soon - they do need to be sure that they have a good RB, but if we believe that Taylor can play *some* of the season and their draft pick and backups can do enough they can ride that D and and improving Leftwich/WRs they're good to go. Tennessee on the other hand now have a good RB to tanden with an equal RB in Chris Brown. They don't have a lot else going for them, although they can try and stay competitive the Flaming Thumbtacks are on their way to a period of rebuilding. Travis is going to be there to help shore up an offence in a major transition from McNair to, well someone else, so they have to be positive they can at least run the ball a little. But let's face it - they are in decline. And Buffalo... Well we should be happy with our Backfield Stable. We have a resurgent Willis McGahee keen to prove to the world that all that college potential is now true NFL stardom, we have a capable backup in Lee, and a nice house of other guys all of whom have markedly different skills to threaten a D with. Mix in Damion Shelton and we're good to go. We play both Jax and Tenn next year - so we made the smart move in dealing our good RB to a team in decline and avoided strengthening a team on the rise that we have to play real soon - AND we picked up what is likely to be a good spot in R3 next year. So Tenn and Buff win - Jax don't even figure.
Bill from NYC Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 No way to tell for sure until we see who we draft and how TH plays in Tenn., but at this early stage, I am thinking that the Buffalo Bills and the jags both did very well.

TD said himself that the first team to offer a 3rd would get him. Unless he's still playing poker Jeff
eball Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 the bills were 9-7 last year IN SPITE OF henry being on the roster, not because he was on the roster. the bills are the winners in this deal, regardless of what donahoe says publicly. you know that privately, donahoe, mularkey, and clements exchanged a few high fives knowing that they just got an early 3rd rounder for a malcontent who would have left at the end of this year for nothing.
Corp000085 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 they just got an early 3rd rounder for a malcontent who would have left at the end of this year for nothing. 384886 That's where you're wrong. As far as i'm concerned, Travis Henry left the team last offseason, the day that willis proclaimed himself ready to practice. Remember two years ago how travis said he'd get 2000 yards?? Remember how friggin hard that guy ran up the hole?? You saw zero of that talent last year with willis breathing down his back. Talent is only half the issue. One can only look as far as RJ for that. I saw RJ, as i saw travis as being extremely talented at their position, but look what happened when real life took over?? RJ sucked, and so did travis (to a lesser degree of course). Travis couldn't handle that willis mcgahee was the real deal. He didn't have it in him to shake that when he got on the field. That's why he tripped against oakland. That's why he didn't get into the end zone that same game. That's why he simply couldn't gain sh-- on the ground. I'm glad he's gone, and i'm more glad he went to a hated team. In travis' defense though, he was a workhorse for his first 3 seasons here. That dude ran hard, never complained about injury or anything, and simply gave it all. Unfortunately though, we weren't seeing his true colors.

nick in* england Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Unfortunately though, we weren't seeing his true colors. 384908 Never a truer word spoken. Travis was a class act on the field for 2 seasons. Then Willis showed up and he whined and gave up. Despite any rhetoric to the opposite effect, Travis quit on this team because of Willis. He had no interest in competing. He's better than he showed us in the past year.

obie_wan Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Good point, but sometimes it is necessary to go with an unproven second year talent, right? 384940 if it's one with a 1st round pedigree. I was high on Lee last year froma talent level, but the reason he was let go by parcells may be due to his IQ.
nick in* england Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 big quantum leap to consider Lee a capable backup when he is only a 2nd year unproven talent who was cut outright by the almighty Tuna. 384931 The guy is dumb - hence Tuna cut him. He can carry the rock and run thru the holes. That's all we need from a backup. Additionally, Shaud Williams showed some skills last year and can backup - even tho he is very small. And don't forget that Gates has the size of back we are looking for - but he's a question mark because he split the load in college so much, so durability may come into play. All in all I like what I see with our RBs
jwatts Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Here's another article on the trade. Key parts are below with link to the whole thing. The problems were solved Monday when Bills president Tom Donahoe announced he traded Henry to the Tennessee Titans for a third-round pick in next year's draft. "We're really glad that it's over," Donahoe said. "Tennessee gave us the best offer and gave us really what we were looking for." Donahoe said the Titans had agreed to the deal in principle last Tuesday and that the NFL had approved the terms of the deal Friday. Donahoe said the Jaguars' interest in Henry was inconsistent. He said the Jaguars backed out of the running on July 11. Donahoe said the Jaguars then renewed their interest the following day, but after the Bills had agreed to the deal in principle with Tennessee. Donahoe said the Bills were adamant in getting at least a third-round pick. "We felt we couldn't live with less than that pick, and if we didn't get that pick, we were prepared to go to training camp with him on the roster," Donahoe said. "Whether he showed up or not, that would be another issue." http://www.titansonline.com/news/newsmain_....php?PRKey=2831
eball Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Good point, but sometimes it is necessary to go with an unproven second year talent, right? 384940 it certainly worked in mcgahee's case.

ch19079 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 canser is a strong word for a guy who signed an extention with the bills, then the bills go out and use their 1st round pick on a RB. hes not happy about it, but plays the season, through injuries, and plays well. then he is benched for that unproven, not even 100% healthy RB. its no wonder hes mad. he knew that when we used a 1st rounder on McGahee that he was done in buffalo. and he didnt want to be a backup. so he wanted to be traded to a team that wanted him. he wasnt sitting on the sidelines saying i hate this team. he was relaxing at his house during the offseason. we ALL knew he would be traded this off season. anyone who said diffrently was only saying that to gain leverage in trade talks. he wasnt gunna be a bill this comming season. the only real argument is whether the bills got enough in the trade. not whether trading henry was a good or bad. hes not a canser. things happen the way they did, cus thats how things work in the NFL. hes a good RB, who thinks hes a starter, and wants to be a starter. K. Johnson when he played for the bucs was a canser. T. Henry was not.
nero47 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 In the event that Willis goes down for a prolonged period... 384978 Touche! However i don't think WM is going down for any length of time. I believe he's back at full strength and with the wall in front of him he shouldn't be getting hit real clean.
ganesh Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 And don't forget Travis Henry himself...He was a winner too...He got his wish for a ticket out of buffalo. He has been given a chance to compete and win a starting job (and actually has a decent shot at it, unlike against McGahee or Taylor)
