Mark Vader Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 I know I am late on this topic, but nobody's perfect. With most of the summer tentpole films out, the month of July now tries to keep the movie crowds excited with a bunch of films that could strike box office gold or fall flat on their faces. As of now there are 2 films this month that should have no trouble finding audiences. Marvel Comics gets back into action this summer with "Fantastic 4". The popular comic book movie stars Ioan Gruffud, Michael Chiklis, Jessica Alba, & Chris Evans as the titular group. Julian McMahon dons the mask as Dr.Doom. The biggest hurdle will be if moviegoers have had enough comic book movies, since "Batman Begins" is still only 4 weeks old. Tim Burton & Johnny Depp team up for the fourth time in their career,(their 5th time comes later this fall in "Corpse Bride"), in this "re-imagining" of "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory". The story is a familiar one and has all the elements of being the big family film hit of the summer. Now if people can get past Johnny Depp's freakishly looking Willy Wonka. Now the movies that have potential this month, but will need word-of-mouth in order to make big money. "Weding Crashers" stars Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson, who play 2 best friends that go around too the best places in the world to score.....WEDDINGS!!! Rachel McAdams & Christopher Walken co-star. In the sci-fi "The Island", Ewan McGregor & Scarlett Johansson, discover that their lives are not what they seem to be. Steve Buscemi, & Michael Clarke Duncan co-star. Billy Bob Thornton becomes coach to a terrible little league team, in the remake of "The Bad News Bears". Kurt Russell & Kelly Preston are a pair of superheroes, who hope that their son has what it takes to be like them, in the family film "Sky High". Jamie Foxx, Josh Lucas, & Jessica Biel, are a trio of fighter pilots, that have to take on the Navy's latest creation. A jet fighter with artificial intelligence, that becomes really pissed off when it starts to think on it's own, in "Stealth". Diane Lane tries to find romance with John Cusack in "Must Love Dogs". Jennifer Connely headlines "Dark Water". Another Japanese horror movie, given the hollywood treatment. Rob Zombie follows up on his "House of 1000 Corpses" with a sequel; "The Devil's Rejects". Also a pair of Sundance favorites open this month: "Hustle & Flow" with Terrence Howard as a pimp who tries to become a successful rapper, and "The Aristocrats", a documentary by comedian Penn Teller, which showcases the joke of The Aristocrats in it's many different variations, by over 100 comedians. Here's the calendar with trailers, enjoy. SilverNRed Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 In other words, the best movie to see in July is still Batman Begins (even though it came out June 15).
BillsGuyInMalta Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 After seeing the trailer for Stealth, I have redubbed the movie: "Short Circuit 3: Johnny 5's Revenge"
Dan III Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 After seeing the trailer for Stealth, I have redubbed the movie: "Short Circuit 3: Johnny 5's Revenge" 378096 I thought it was "Deal of the Century 2: Without Chevy"
SilverNRed Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 After seeing the trailer for Stealth, I have redubbed the movie: "Short Circuit 3: Johnny 5's Revenge" 378096 I had to sit through that trailer before Star Wars and Batman Begins. The second time I was more interested in watching the second-hand on my watch go around than watching that horrible trailer. Let me get this straight, a stealth fighter piloted by a robot gets struck by lightning and then decides to take over the world? And apparently has enough ammunition to do so? And fuel? Even if lightning could make machines come alive and act evil, the evil stealth fighter threat would probably be over once the stupid thing ran out of gas and fell into the ocean. Seriously, if they're going to make a movie about a stealth fighter that makes absolutely no sense, have it be piloted by a super-intelligent tyranosaurus rex from another dimension. And have it fight Satan who, in a bid to take over the world, stole a top secret prototype fighter from Russia. Then throw some time travel and Dakota Fanning in for good measure. Danny Devito can be the voice of the T-Rex.
The Warden Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Fantastic Four http://www.fantasticfourmovie.com/flash_index.html Watch the trailer for free and save $7 -FF- Tom Cruise couldn't make it worse
SilverNRed Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 "Jedi do not not fight for peace. That's only a slogan and is misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilzation, because only civilization creates peace." Mace Windu 378134 I know that wasn't in any of the movies - was that in one of the novelizations or comics? That's a pretty solid quote....

That's a pretty solid quote.... 378139 It is in Matthew Stover's book - one of the best SW novels ever - he got the screen play direct from Lucas - the movie was good but the book was better. The angst of Anakin is laid bare -

Pete Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 COOL! Remakes of Bad News Bears! Lets make Fantastic Four a movie! Then we can redo Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Wedding Crashers- I think I saw that one before and it was called Swingers. More Batman films! More remakes of TV! More Dawn of the Dead films! WOOHOO! Hollywood rocks

You have to admit, it is easier to just rehash the same old thing again and again isn't it? At least they're getting paid.

FWIW, the Target ad in my morning paper is selling a "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" game of some starting Wednesday the 13th, and it includes a voucher for a free movie ticket. Of course, the movie might be in the $2.50 theaters in a few weeks...
ExWNYer Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Diane Lane tries to find romance with John Cusack in "Must Love Dogs". Man, if you can't find romance with Diane Lane you must not have a pulse!
SF Bills Fan Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 My buddy saw Wedding Crashers on a free screening and said it's hilarious.

Movie attendance is at the lowest point in 20 years. I like to voice my opinion why. Maybe others read it and concur and so on and so on. Bashing works. We ran the statue out of here. Maybe we can urge Hollywood to make some original movies. No doubt there are tons of great scripts out there but Hollywood instead chooses to rehash crap.
Kelly the Dog Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Anyone who thinks Hollywood doesn't make good films should see "Crash". It's pretty damn good. Maybe tries a little too hard, and quite preposterous at times, but excellent writing, directing, acting, casting, music, editing, etc.

Rico Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 The Devil's Rejects was incredible! Never would've thought Rob Zombie had it in him after Corpses. The ending was just cinematic art, accompanied by Skynyrd's Freebird of all songs. Wedding Crashers was very funny. Never cared much for Vince Vaughn before this movie, he stole the show & tore down the house.
