Astrobot Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 must you forget about the Cardinals? (Anquan Boldin, Bryant Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald) pretty young and solid core, with Johnson starting to come close to the first round value that he was drafted at Sorry, I did forget the Cardinals. Of course, it's so easy to... Hardly...jax is one of the most overrated teams in the NFL...jimmy smith is close to the end of his career, he was solid last year, but not dominating like he has been in the past, williams is only gonna be a second year player who has yet to show much, same goes for wilford...and matt jones, for all his athletic ability, is still a huge question mark... I believe it was Wilford that beat us last season, and everybody here lusted after Matt Jones. Jimmy Smith has 696 receptions in his career for 9,804 yards, more than any other receiver in NFL history in any eight-year span other than Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison. He'll be good for 1000 yards again this year.
MDH Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 or maybe even the Lions (Mike Williams to go with Roy Williams and a healthy Charles Rogers ) 374761 There is no such thing as a "healthy" Charles Rogers.
MartyBall4Buffalo Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Uh, no.The League best receiver CORPS may be: Oakland's (WR Ronald Curry joins Randy Moss and Jerry Porter) or Indy's (Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne on the wings, Brandon Stokley in the slot and up-and-coming tight end Dallas Clark) or Jacksonville (Jimmy Smith , Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Ernest Wilford) or maybe even the Lions (Mike Williams to go with Roy Williams and a healthy Charles Rogers ) or Texans (Andre Johnson, Corey Bradford, Jabar Gaffney along with rookie speedster Jerome Mathis). Moulds, Evans, Parrish, and Reed would rate below Oakland, Detroit, and Indy, and for now above Jax and Texans. 374761 I'm a big believer that you have to show something first before you can be called good or ggreat. Charles Rogers is more fragile than a chandelier. Roy Williams had a great rookie season, so I have nothing bad to say about him, and Mike Williams could see the same problems Reggie Williams in jax had. Big Slow wr, who can't get seperation which will lead to bad production. They have potential to be amazing. I mean how many teams can say their #4 wr is Kevin Johnson, but prove it on the field first. Although I think they're gonna be great. I'd take jacksonville off this list. Jimmy Smith is still productive but you can keep the rest of those guys. Matt Jones hasn't played wr since highschool, and workout #'s don't impress me. Reggie Williams looks like a bust so far. Ernest Wilford had only 1 game where he recorded more than 2 catches. I think it's a crime to leave the rams off this list. No they're not the greatest show on turf anymore, but no receiver has had 5 straight 1300 yard seasons in nfl history other than Tory Holt, and Ike Bruce is still a productive wr. I'd rank the wr units as follows Indy, Stl, Oak,cincy, arizona, detroit, After this it's all foggy. I really hate putting oakland on my list above, cause Jerry Porter for all his hype has been nothing more than a good complimentary receiver who show's flashes, but doesn't have the 1000 yard seasons to stand out as elite. To rank any unit above Harrison/Wayne/Stokley just seems assinine. Some Sleeper units now Baltimore- Derrick Mason/rookie Mark Clayton/Clarence Moore Not to mention te Todd Heap. It's now or never for Kyle Boller. My Money is on never though. New Orleans- Joe Horn/Donte Stalworth/Devery Henderson/Az Hakim- maybe the fastest wr core in the league, boasting the most underrated wr in the league Joe Horn. Stallworth has to take the next step, but this could be a great unit. Carolina- Steve Smith/Keary Colbert/Ricky Proehl.- Great gound game will take pressure off the receivers. Steve Smith returns from injury and his speed will stretch the field allowing colbert to play the role muhammed has the past few years, allowing proehl to work the middle. Other than the colts might have the most security at the quaterback position. Buffalo- Had to make this post about the bills somehow Eric Moulds obviousily has lost a step or 2, but he's still productive, and still our best wr (at least for now). Lee Evans had a great rookie season leading all rookies in ypc and td's. Roscoe Parrish gives us another dimension of speed and hopefully a productive #3 option as I'm not 100% sure but I believe we were in the bottom of the league for receptions to our #3 and #4 receivers. With Moulds/Evans/Parrish we should have a good group, however this depends on losmans ability to get them the ball and for the line to give him enough time. And oh yeah Josh Reed won't be a buffalo bill in 2006. He's done. He'll be the #5 wr come week 1.
MDH Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I don't think it matters what he does. If he has a great year, he goes on the market. If he has a subpar year, he goes on the market. About the only way he stays is if he has a great year and one of the big 2 has a severe injury. 374872 He could end up staying if he has a solid year and Parrish looks to be a flop. I don't think its possible for him to have a "great" year being, at best, #3 on the depth chart in a run oriented offense.
Astrobot Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 OMG, this is turning into a football post. I'll give you StLouis for one more year, although I'll be surprised if The greatest Show on Turf gets 7 wins. Cincy's is a stretch by your own definition. They have to show us something before they can be called great. Buffalo is in the same boat. Evans COULD be great, but Moulds-Evans-Parrish-Reed has to be in the 2nd tier for now. JAX is exactly like us in the WR department--one star, one flop so far, one good rookie, and a decent draft. The Lions, Texans, and Cards have a good corps, but both can be stopped because they haven't the ability to use a better offensive set than the 3-wide.
jarthur31 Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 He and Wire should be cut and make room for guys who want to play for the Bills. These two losers have shown that they don't want to or can't.
