davefan66 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Mine did. Also wrestled and played lacrosse. Football and wrestling were his best sports by far. Interesting part? Suffered his worst concussion wrestling. Concussions were always a concern in football, wrestling was not. Quote
ShakAttack Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Me: Yes Wife: No There are many conversations we probably should have had years ago and didn’t. This is one of them 😆 8 year old son plays flag football now. maybe this discussion will be revisited in high school if he’s still interested in playing. Quote
Virgil Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Did you run out of space with the title or was this intentional click bait? (yes, it’s rhetorical) 1 Quote
CoffeeDrip Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago If I had a son, probably. If he wanted to. But I have a daughter and she plays soccer and rides horses.. riding is dangerous too. 🤷♀️ 1 Quote
rajinka Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago We did until he was a freshman playing varsity. Got lit up on kick off coverage wicked concussion. Was out rest of the year, took probably 6 months for symptoms to subside. This was his second one but we decided the risk wasn't worth it 1 Quote

(yes, it’s rhetorical) I fully expected to come here and see a picture of a very attractive ladyboy, extremely overweight onlyfans model, or a slightly appealing androgynous figure, or a proactively shaped piece of fruit. I was like, “I’ll play.” But yeah, if my kid wants to play football, sure Edited 5 hours ago by Kirby Jackson Quote
TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago My 9 year old daughter and 6 year old son are playing flag football and they love it. I’ll probably never let them play tackle but am envious of all the others who are willing to risk it. Quote

TheyCallMeAndy Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago When we would play pickup games at college, a rule was invented: the lightest person gets to decide if it's tackle. I was always the lightest. I also made up the rule lol 1 Quote

thenorthremembers Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) I coach football, and I think it's a case-by-case basis. My oldest son started begging to play youth football at 6 years old. I told him absolutely not. I love the game but I dont think there is a reason in the world for 6 years olds to be putting on equipment their heads can't hold up and hitting one another with it. I relented at 9, which I still think is too early. I will fully admit that part of the reason I allowed him to do it was because he has a good arm and I knew he'd end up playing QB. He's played for 5 years never had an injury and is the starter on his JV team. Last year he watched one of his O-Line members get a nasty concussion. The kids eyes rolled into his head. My son broke down after the game and thought about quitting. I even considered pulling him because what are we really doing here. My youngest son is a tall thinly built kid. He wants to play badly but he doesnt have the skill or body mass his older brother has. I dont see the benefit of him playing right now. He is a good baseball and basketball player and I'd rather him focus on those sports. Football is a fantastic sport that teaches kids a ton about work ethic and sacrifice. That said, you really need to weigh the benefits for your kids. Also, you have to be honest with yourself about your kid's ability and size. I cant tell you how many kid's parents Ive dealt with who think their kid is a NFL superstar in the making. Even at the youth and high school level its a dangerous sport. Dont send your kid to be someone's tackling dummy. Edited 5 hours ago by thenorthremembers 2 Quote
