Because it's possible to think and believe two things at the same time. I'm saying this from a fan perspective and not the WGR guys perspective because I don't listen to them...but it's possible to agree that this regime has brought the longest sustained tenure of legitimate success since the SB years AND that they have massively underachieved in the playoffs.

What we've seen here is unprecedented when a star QB plays this well overall in the playoffs and has nothing to show for it. We're barely over .500 with him the playoffs playing mostly lights out and it's for the same exact reason every year. The defense has been beyond awful in the playoffs, Beane and McDermott have failed consistently on that end year after year. We've flushed almost the entire 20's of the best player we've ever had because the ask has been so high. Mahomes can have an up and down postseason and still win or make it to a SB. That just hasn't been possible for Josh, we can't even get there when he's great.

All of these things can be true at the same time. You can feel fortunate and thank this regime that we're good and have had sustained success while also be aware of the shortcomings that have prevented us from winning big and wonder if these are the guys that can actually get the team over that hurdle. These are not exclusive to each other.

Yeah, you missed my point completely.

Nope, not over at all. You want to complain, I understand. Just don't act like your viewpoint is the only correct one.

What's funny, is the Bills signed Leonard Floyd who was a solid player in June of 2023...

And signed Ty Johnson in August of 2023...

So the idea from the other poster that you can't find key players is funny.  Both those guys were solid players for the Bills.

Beane doesn't need to apologize one bit. He is a GM, the guy who makes the tough decisions, not some hindsight radio personality. Good for him!

People saying we cannot criticize are ridiculous IMO. In truth we haven't won anything yet. Yes they have been exciting to watch and a good team but they have fallen short every time of reaching their goals. The 90s team did as well and they deserved criticism as well. Probably most deservingly on Marv Levy.

B!g B!tchin’ Beane!

one of Beanes attributes I have always liked is he is as honest a football GM and shows a lot of candor in most of his answers. As much as any GM does anyway.

I think he did the same thing today but the answers he provided they weren't buying. And he was done justifying not only himself but the down from he to coaches to scouts etc.

Good for him. He has lead in his pencil. aka backbone.

This was in large part a waste of an interview with the GM the weekday right after the draft and they spend roughly half the time talking about WRs.

Beane started it in the direction aggressively and the two interviewers were too stunned or ineffective at redirecting the dialogue.

Wasted opportunity, Beane has to be more professional , especially with the opening  reaction.

But the POINT is that we had the highest score offense...why does it matter which position group was the determining factor?

The POINT is that Coleman, Samuels, Dalton, and Palmer had little to do with the Bills being the highest scoring team in 2024.  Amari and Mack played a big part in Bills scoring.  And they are gone.  MVP Josh was an alchemist.

To just assume that Coleman can learn to beat press coverage, that Dalton plays better than Knox, that Samuels can stay healthy, that Palmer steps up, that a stud fifth WR magically appears, and that Shakir stays healthy- that’s a lot of assumptions!

It is a thin line between hope and folly.

People think just because we led the league in scoring, we will again.  Well many  opposing teams have their sites on Bills, have studied Bill Offense, they are building game plans against us.   But we were so good on offense last year, we don’t need to evolve.  We don’t to add any talent- give all to the D.

Not sarcastic. I wanted to see what your actual thoughts were. From your answer I understand you would have put more draft resources into drafting WR3 over DT2. Now I know philosophically you and I will never agree and we can move on agreeing to disagree. You prefer to spend more than both of our second round picks to draft a WR3 with upside to be 2. A rookie WR would play on no more than 30% of downs as opposed to a DT who will be a starter and will play 45% of downs at a minimum. 4th or 5th rd players are not starting in this offense, Shakir put up really good stats and was used sparingly early on. Deone Walker should play a significant role as a rotational DT and adds size that no one on this team has. We NEEDED 2 DTs in this draft. We cannot hope to put up a semi-competent D without adding what we added.

To trade for Tory Horton would have cost us 170 and 240. I wish they had done that. I don't know if they liked him or if they thought he was equal value to Jordan Hancock but I can see valuing that WR role equal to the hybrid player we selected.

So, the point I agree with you on is we could have selected Tory Horton, I wish they had, but maybe they liked him less than we do. They picked a WR 74 picks later and Beane said that he was surprised the board lined up to where value matched the pick that late. All I can say is that the Bills and the league didn't value Horton higher than Jordan Hancock by a lot or I think we would have traded up to get him. As a general philosophy I can say we probably disagree as to the value of a field stretching WR over other positions, but I appreciate you putting your thoughts down. The draft isn't the entire offseason, there are speedy receivers who are known commodities on the market like Moore and Chark. I don't think it's fair to say we ignored the position when it's April.

I think we see a couple players differently. I believe Burton is an Immediate WR2 with WR1 upside not a WR3. I also don’t see TJ Sanders as DT2. I see him playing 30-35% of the snaps behind Oliver and them giving up on Carter who they invested a 3rd rounder on last year instead of taking Troy Franklin, who I was clamoring for.

The TJ sanders and the 3rd corner/blocking TE areas were my only big complaints. I think those were prime areas to trade up for the WR you wanted (Burden 2nd, Horton 5th) and still have the same draft defensively minus Sanders or Strong)

So your assumption is they won’t contribute in 2025? Astute assessment since 3 had significant injuries and 1 wasn’t on the team. Dalton got hurt because JA threw a horrible pass to him in Indy. And his teammates raved about his toughness trying to play through it. Do we need more from

these players? Yes. Do I expect it ? Yes.

So your assumption is that Keon, Dalton, Palmer, Samuels will all be awesome?  Got it

Flying to LA and I am loving listening to these guys try to clean this up.   They come back from a commercial and they replay it and bleep the word B word when they just let it go over and over in real time.  They are trying to defend themselves and look silly. It’s not that more we talent would not help.  It is 50% of what these guys talk about …it’s the obsession.

Don't sugarcoat it Matt. Beane handed them their azzes, then turned around, dropped trou and crapped in their hands!

I think it's alarming that 2 shock jocks got under BEANES skin.... He's got to be bigger than that

I think there is large percentage of Bills fans upset we did not upgrade WR room.  I think Beane feels it

Noone is saying that you cant and we cant.  Telling a different guest right before how you’re going to call out Beane on air isnt that. They cut that part out then they can ask questions.  Was probably gonna break the Moore news too.

I don't know what's worse.  Going through the drought or the angst of not winning a Super Bowl with the best QB this franchise will ever have.

Pete, he’s addressed this point repeatedly. They liked a few receivers but at pick time they were gone. He’s not finished building the team but it’s already much better in April than it was in January.

Defense allowed Mahomes to have his best offensive performance of the year against them.  The D allowed 13 seconds.  Memory must be short if you just remember a drop or missed field goal here or there.  The defense (and not just the production, but the age of the core) was an issue and needed to be addressed.  They need to get younger at CB and D-line.  Needed to.  And this was the draft to do that.

Defensive depth has been a huge problem against the chiefs in the playoffs for multiple years now on top of needing a huge upgrade at cb2 over how Douglas played last year

It’s givin me a bit of a chuckle people are complaining we drafted multiple corners in a deep cb draft because they wanted mid round WRs in a weak wr draft.  If we mostly stood pat there’s just too many guys on the defensive side where it’s a virtually guaranteed loss against the playoff chiefs if they’re not available to play.  You could give Josh any wr of his choosing from around the league and the bills still probably lose that chiefs game without benford last year.  If taron goes down, pretty much the same deal

13 seconds game the starting corners were Levi Wallace/dane Jackson, last year after benford went down we were in even worse shape than that.  And the game in between those two we lost pretty much the whole LB room against PIT the week before.
